I agree. With the rise in proximity key hacks and thefts, I'm perfectly happy to still turn a tumbler.

I'm hoping they come out with a TRD supercharger for the 3.5 down the road. That'd be nice. Not that I could afford it.

Seeing how you have no idea how engine configurations work, I would take your opinion on transmission configuration very lightly.

Manual is better than Auto in every which way.

Actually thinking about doing this, found a truck exactly like mine except it's a 2017 6spd manual. Trying to get the numbers right.

I've been driving a MT for over 20 years and just bought my first automatic. For me best move ever. But I sit in LA traffic everyday. Not saying I don't miss it, cause I do. I also don't miss having to constantly shift in traffic. Damn the LA life. If I lived anywhere else it would be a MT!!

I've talked with the wifey and the funds weren't approved..... dam it!
    Trying to se everything positive:
The wifey takes real care of our money...
if it were from me i would have spent a lot of money on whims...
Next truck v6 manual long box 4x4... all needs satisfied...
For now... try to enjoy my auto trans........ I am going to hit the pedal more on the next tank of gas to see if the mpgs drop or rise.. at least feel it more peppy...

For those with manual transmission... think of me when shifting and revving it.. maybe when you burn tires from 1st to 2nd...

Ps: I haven't been able to burn the f@cking tires just by hitting the gas....

I love how my 6-Speed sounds like a big commercial truck in a tiny pickup body. When driving in 1st gear the engine fan revs up and it sounds like a 747 taking off and when the revs drop really low you can hear the engine and transmission putter like a diesel.

Interesting view you paint there...I think thats a good simile ...

I look at it like a rwo stroke...sluggish when puttering, but get it in the power band and it really steps smartly.

A missed shift won't damage your transmission. A full clutch drop into 2nd at 65 MPH and 2000rpm will, and that's about it. In other specific situations like wheeling where the goal is to let it bog and keep the clutch engaged, excessive slip occasionally happens and can wear it out. But the clutch should get you well into 6 figures and is much cheaper to maintain. Plus, you can take that price difference between the two models and save that aside for the 1 and only clutch replacement you'll ever need for the truck.

I do understand if it's a comfort thing though. Manual trucks aren't for everyone and that's cool.

+1 . That's why my second taco was a slush box. Best reason to go auto in my opinion. Traffic is a bear. I used to drive the east coast and the washington bridge in NY was always a nightmare.

I think the biggest deciding factor to me for a MT over and AT was just the gear hunting. At that price point, I want some performance. Not porche performance, but quality shifts were a reasonable request for a mini truck that costs 30k.

IMO when I drove the AT I absolutely hated the pairing of gear huniting and the way the motor spools higher. By switching to MT I only have to deal with the different powerband, which is really not an issue considering it only takes place under quick acceleration, and all vehicles spool high at that point (compared to the AT spooling when just going from 20-30 quick, aka all the time on the truck I drove).

I test drove the AT 3 times before pulling the trigger on an MT. Wasnt for me. I pulled the trigger on the MT. Always average about 20mpg combined and have zero issue with the power.

I like my truck. But, I would gladly trade with a Canadian for the exact truck with MT. I can't get this setup here, and I hate the dcsb. Really would have liked the MT, it would have been fun in this truck.

Get the Sport. Unless you you do serious off-roading I don't see why you really need the off-road version. BUT I do think it would be best if we could get more available trims with the 6-Speed and we can share some of our trims with the Canadians.

In defense of the Auto, I don't see what the big deal is with people complaining about this transmission. I'm driving a Toyota rental because my 6-Speed is in the shop right now. I noticed it up shifts on a lot of hills to avoid lugging the engine because the trans is in 6th gear by the time you're at 30mph pretty much. People wanted better fuel economy so this is what you got.

I had a brand new 17 Automatic for an extended test drive for a few day, absolutely hated that transmission constantly up and down shifting, anytime a new person comes on asking about one I always recommend an overnight test drive minimum.

I think it'd just compared to the gen 2. The fuel economy isn't that much better, and the overall driving experience was better in the gen 2, or at least I found so. I loved the way my 2011 DCSB delivered it's power.

AT works fine for me, but I may be jaded because I came from a 1997 F150 with 250k on the OG tranny

Also, I wonder if it's regionally influenced as well. I live in NH where it's all hills everywhere.

Not saying the AT is bad by any means. Just driving experience wisee if you don't mind hitting the 3rd pedal, you can't lose with MT tradeoffs

The hills around here made that Auto freak out, there is one decent hill I went up and it cycled thru 4th, 5th, and 6th many times over.

I work at a plant and we have our own little taco corner in the lot. A lot of the guys who drive the autos love them, but they all day they throw it in the tripT mode and lock it into 5th around here.
