Update on this.... got the truck for 1000$ it was "junk to them".............Buddy of mines dad has a 4 car hauler. Friend of the family broke down and he picked up her 2006 4door short bed trd offroad 4x4. Serpentine belt went and she kept driving until it died . Got hauled back to his garage. We hooked it up to his snap on solus diagnostic tool and had codes for bank 1 and 2 knock sensor as well as a coolant temp code. The freeze frame for that code was 275 degrees. No coolant present in upper radiator. Charged battery and added 1 quart of oil to get it to bottom of dip stick. Rolls over, wont start. Mechanic says engine is smoked. The good.....has brand new frame and suspension components. Truck was ran hard. Paint is in good shape but interior is rough. It's been drove hard and neglected. Here's what we know for sure. It's going to need a motor. It's a 6speed manual 4.0L 207k miles . The clutch is smoked, needs new brakes all the way around. What's its worth.

I'd say that it sounds like you taking it out of their yard is a pretty good deal!

Gonna try to get it for a 1000.....the roof is 2000. We have the capability to do all work in house. If the motor was good the market for this truck is around 8grand. We should be able to walk away around 5000 is the goal.

If you could get it for even high $5k, still excellent deal.

My wife would be pissed but I would give $2500

Sell the camper, $500 - $800 instantly. That may offset a higher initial purchase price.

It may be worth more, but is it realistic to get $2500 out of a non running vehicle? The number of people with the time and abilities to do an engine swap is very small.

Honestly, I would have a hard time giving $800 for the rig and I have the above listed abilities.

You have to buy a $1500 (at best) motor + your time, no way would you make any money giving over a grand for the thing.

Start very low on your offer. Who gives a shit if you offend the owners? They don't exactly have a path beaten to their door by people who want that truck.

Absolutely realistic at 2500. Check out what these things go for at salvage auction!

Of course I have a project or 20 in mind lol

I agree with a lot of what you're saying, however the intention is not to make a profit, it's to keep the rig.

I thought I read earlier that you were going to repair and sell. My mistake.

Yes it has more value as your own vehicle.

I wouldn't personally touch it for a profit because it's simply not worth my time

    Exactly.

I understand purchasing these vehicles from auction. All my present Toyota trucks were wrecked salvage vehicles. They all ran and had low miles.
The 200k miles would turn off lots of buyers looking to pick up a project tacoma to flip.

    Yep.
    @kystnTRD

Might be a hike from the Pittsburg side but I happen to have a 4.0L motor and trans out my '05 6speed (RIP) with 140k and no issues. The short story is, I got shafted on the frame recall and ended up parting/scrapping out the truck.

They are currently being stored at a friends house in NJ. Was just going to hold onto them till my new-to-me 4cyl died and then swap it in.
