this is why I drive a1995 hi lux truck. I own it no monthly payments, I use liability insurance not full coverage, and can do all routine maintainence myself, gets somewhat good MPGs, and is still a 4x4 truck and is a reliable Toyota. which drives my monthly costs down immensely, best thing to do is own your vehicle even if it means getting a used or older model that may not have all the modern upgrades for the time being until the finances stabilize and income increases to the point you can upgrade the vehicle to a newer vehicle

Have you looked at a corvette or a challenger SRT8???

    Jk...
If you are serious about lowering your monthly expenses in order to save money, maybe it would be better to go with a civic or a corolla

Wish I still had my '97 regular cab. That thing was a blast but of course the frame just withered away. Resale value is something I hadn't considered yet. That's good. You guys are really helping me out here. I may have to stick with the Taco for a while.

Oh and my APR is like 2.79% I think.
EDIT: I could've gotten lower at a credit union BUT then I wouldn't have gotten the $750 college grad rebate. I wanted that $750 for the down payment help which was nice.

a 5 lugger Toyota truck is a great idea, it may not be sexy but its reliable, usually cost less than 4x4 counterparts, and are tough as nails, most will get 26 mpgs or above and you still have a pickup truck bed to move your belongings around in when you move to different places to live.

How much do you owe on the Tacoma? How much longer do you have left to pay it off??

Even if the WRX is cheaper per month, you would likely be paying it off for longer... something to think about too

I owe like 19k... It's still worth 28-30k and I have 4 years left to pay it off. I'll never take out a loan more than 60 months. I always pre-pay as well. That being said if I trade down to the WRX (26k from the dealer) and what I get for the Taco, Obviously use as a down payment, maybe even add some cash on top, and over a 4 year period payments being <=300/mo

Can you refinance now with a credit union? 2.79% is pretty good.

You like to drive and it sounds like your not afraid of the skinny pedal, in my experience the speeding tickets and added cost of the insurance is why I now drive a truck. Even with the truck I push it, but nothing like I did in my cars, and I didn't ever have any speed demon ride.

The most speeding tickets I've had in one vehicle was a 2005 Toyota Rav4. So let that sink in lol. This Tacoma is a dog though. No acceleration at all! The biggest vehicle I've owned for sure and if I keep it I'm DEFINITELY and anxiously awaiting the OV tune for it.

didn't say you couldn't speed in any vehicle, just know that cars that get up and go, will tend to lead to more tickets.

If you're serious about reducing your costs and your figures are accurate, your best bet is to sell your truck and pay cash for an older car with your equity. All things being equal, your net worth would remain unchanged and your cash flow would improve significantly immediately.

this is why I did not go to college, I did not want any outstanding college loans, I learned a trade and went right to work putting money in my pockets not in the college loan sharks pockets. having a college degree is not a guarantee that you will have success making money to survive on.

Something else to consider is the amount of miles I drive a year. It's around 22k a year with roadtrips to from Dayton Ohio to Cleveland, Chicago, Louisville, and maybe even Florida. I need something definitely reliable for those long hauls but again, fun to drive.

Keeping the Taco keeps seeming like a better option now. Reliability/Longevity/Practical.

And, I don't think he'll end up saving a whole lot in gas. Fast car = right foot welded to the floor.
