    howdy,

let me start off by saying I LOVE MY TRUCK but...i know just enough about engines to get myself in trouble. so, some of the questions will be a bit nooby.

i need the engine replaced on my 2001 2.7L Standard Cab Prerunner and i CANNOT find a shop that will do it. all say they can't guarantee the work...except for one guy.

that being said he'll do it for $4200 engine/labor with a six month warranty. mileage on the new engine is 105K. now, i've been reading TW for awhile and i'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to order an engine online? but from where? any suggestions? or do i just let the mechanic order and drop it in?

    all help is greatly appreciated.

I live in Memphis. I could do a straight swap for you if you find an engine but I'm not a certified mechanic and it's not my profession by trade so I wouldn't provide something like a warranty, it would be more of a "trust me I know what I'm doing" kinda thing. I have swapped numerous engines though and I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem. The price he gave you probably isn't far off from other quotes you might get. I'm curious though .... what's wrong with your motor? Can it be rebuilt? If so, there's a fantastic shop in Memphis called Harris Quon Auto Service that specializes in Toyota's and Nissans. It's a small mom and pop kinda shop and all they do is rebuild engines and similar things. Id give them a call and see what they have to say. Great people, great work, great turn-around time and great prices.

901-385-7866 is their number. They may be able to source you an engine, may even have one sitting in their shop. ;)
