Loose feeling when truck rocks side to side

Good morning all,

For the life of me I cant sort this out and every time i bring it to the dealer they say there is nothing wrong.

Whenever i go over uneven terrain or an uneven bump when the truck rocks side to side I can feel something a little off up front. I dont know how to explain it but something feels loose or moving/clicking. I can feel it in the steering wheel when its really rocking side to side. Like a bumpy dirt parking lot with divots all over.

Thoughts? Its not wheel bearings or suspension according to the dealer. Ive looked around a bunch underneath and nothing looks out of the ordinary. This has been going on for as long as i can remember.

Rides perfectly fine on flat roads. I know the 5100's are a little stiffer than stock but nothing similar happens when hitting bumps or little pot holes. I've driven my Dads newer tacoma over the same roads and dirt parking lot and it is definitely not an issue in his.

 

Your profile doesn't list the year of your truck. It does show that you had the frame replaced though. So many things could have been left under torqued. I would guess the major culprits to be the steering shaft (which could also just be shot) or the LCA/ UCA bolts.

 

Its an 05. This was happening before the frame was replaced too. I only noticed it when going up a driveway on an angle from the flat street back then though, which didnt happen too often.
I should probably look into upgrading or replacing the bushings on the UCA/LCA for the hell of it anyhow. Im sure they are toasty now.

f me sideways. I thought it was a joke when i saw the first pic but i am going to zip tie the shit out of that the first free moment i get.

 

My truck does this. It's like a repeating rattle or knock that sounds as if there's torsional play in the steering shaft, prevalent on washboard roads. I've been meaning to try the zip tie fix but haven't gotten around to it.

 

I cant get outside fast enough right now to try this. However, i am at work, its pouring, and have no zip ties anyhow.

 

WOW! i figured i would give this a couple days before posting.
3 zip ties later and im blown away at how this solved my issue.
