Steering column fix

    Decided to fix the loose feeling in the steering column on my 2009 AC 4x4 SR5 6spd MT.

    Here is a quick fix:

    remove the carpet: just pull the velcro back:

    Then unscrew the plastic nuts on the column cover:

    The issue is with the small amount of play on the bearing type thing:
    I stuck a large zip tie (blue)in there...NO MORE NOISE OR PLAY in the column!!

    I now can drive on washboard dirt or cobble stones roads with no loose feeling or vibration!!

    there is no way it can hurt...if you actually look at the bearing it's more of a bushing..the is no friction in there. so the zip tie does not even move....hard to explain.

    Yeah, I believe in your theory. Just hard for me to buy off on a fix like this without taking a look myself at the whole assembly...

    i should take a picture and show you what i meant by my zip tie fix. nt the same at all heh. mine is easy but so far i think dalsmthme has the best idea.

    Well it looks like that section doesn't twist at all... The asembely that moves is directly linked and bolted with the actual steering shaft from there to the rack... seems like it can't hurt in the least. The only thing I'd probably do diffrently is leave the zip tie intact, wrap it all around and zip it shut then cut the excess... that way it can't fall out and bind up on something else later.

    Good find, I might have to try this myself!

    yeah...i just gave it a test drive and NO MORE rattling, steering feels solid...like it should have from the factory!!

    Seems like an awesome fix, only thing that worries me is that the zip tie may wear down over time. How bout if something metal with similar dimensions is used? Maybe a metal strip of some kind? Just an idea.

    Actually No, this is the same location that I was working on. I just used rubber o-rings in the same manner as the zip-tie. I had actually tried the zip-tie some time back but it kept slipping out. I was using a smaller tie though, so that might have been the issue. The zip-tie is certainly easier to get int the shaft than the o-rings were.
