Chatter here on TW suggests under-torqued third member to axle housing fasteners.
EDIT: allowing the fluid to leak.

 You're the man, maybe unintentionally... and unfortunately...

That P/N for the bolt stud, tells me a few things.

1- Looks like one broke or was determined to be no good during the R/R and they quietly put it on the work order, which gives even more credence to the theory that it's the studs that are defective
2- NOW I KNOW WHAT THE PART NUMBER IS FOR THE STUD MUAHAHAHA... no for real that's a big deal, if it turns out that the studs are the issue and I decide to work up an aftermarket "Nitori's better recall" kit AKA buying ARP studs and having a performance shop bang out a swap and throw some AMSOIL in there, you've saved me a shitload of legwork. :)

Don't guys with offroads think they have the superior truck over the sport? That's why.

Mines leaked at about 10k. This was back in July 2016.

Would have been great if they changed my gasket.

Well, took my truck in right when my dealer opened this morning. Boy where they totally unaware of the recall.
Not to mention they kept asking me if I bought the truck form that location, as if that fucking mattered.

Took them about 30 minutes to figure out the recall.
No ETA on when I'll get my truck back but I was given a loaner until then.

At least a case of beer from the dealer, but nope. Though I was the first truck they got back due to the recall.

Yes but I think that just means some monkey takes the protection layerevan off and parks it on the lot.

I did as my truck has made the list and it states thathat the diff maybe seeping or leaking and could cause the rear-end tof lock up.

I'll wait till they have parts before I take my SR in. Looks like it's the studs braking when tightened to spec. So I am not taking my truck in till they have parts it's not leaking at all. I can't work if they end up keeping it. And I can't put a 28 foot ladder on my off road.

All joking aside....sucks for those who have the leaking diff. Willing to bet most don't though.

That said...the repair doesn't seem overly complicated. All will be fine in time. The sun will rise, the trucks will be fixed and life moves on. Didn't some of the early 1GR engines in the G2 trucks have some head gasket and breaking engine mount issues? That's about on-par or even more serious than what will probably just turn out to be a quick inspection of the diff for most people.

Not defending the G3 rigs. I don't even own one. But, as an older guy, I sometimes miss the pre-internet days....before people could so quickly get worked up into a frothing mess. Back in the day....we just enjoyed our vehicles. And once in a while you might get a notice in the mail about an issue that needs to be resolved. No hanging out on forums waiting for the sky to fall.

Failed headgasket took out my 91 3.0 V6 after 12 years and 140k miles. I received three notices to take it in and get it replaced while it was still under 100k but was too lazy to do anything about it, figured I was in the clear up until the moment it blew. Truck was running fine, never gave me any indication of problems and I figured once a dealer got it on the rack, they'd find stuff that needed replacing not covered under the recall or warranty. "Nothing but a dealer ploy to get me to buy a new truck, fuck those guys" was my thinking.

Oh well, got 12 years out of it, sold the rolling chassis for $2500 and bought a used 99 4 banger, wasn't going to risk another V6 at the time.

Enjoyed the truck, probably could have extended the life longer if I got the recall work done but I certainly didn't have a cloud over my heard worrying about when or if it would fail, was just reminded about it when the notice appeared in the mail.

Toyota ownership was much easier then, nobody told you how you were supposed to feel and think about your truck.:D
