it would be interesting, but they are still a ways away from that. biggest reason being that his pool, in order to produce the perfect waves you see, they have to wait 10-15 minutes in between waves. not saying this isn't something they can't fix, but as the pool stands now, that wouldn't work.

i know they are working on changing that, so if they do, i would be ok with a contest there. would hope by then they can mix it up too. so it isn't just a perfect wave over and over and over. would get boring watching every surfer get barreled for 30 seconds. would be interesting to see how the judges would mess it up then!

Get ready for a much more disappointing future (In my opinion atleast).

Imagine a pro tour where there are wave pools set up in various locations that function as stadiums. The wsl sells tickets to said stadiums like a football event, the event is scheduled to take place live on tv for the world to watch.

The hyperinflation of our sport is upon us, so enjoy the water while you still can.

I just don't think there's a big enough surf audience for something like that to happen. Even if you took everyone who surfed, half of them probably have a similar view as you wouldn't go to a stadium to watch surfing out of principal.

I want to get FFI certified. I want to start spear fishing and be able to spend time under water. Plus the confidence of knowing you can hold your breathe for multiple minutes had to help in bigger conditions

Yeah. I think the stadium surfing is an idea that'll never happen. Or if it does, it'll fail miserably. If the XFL couldn't make it. I doubt surfing will ever make it in the middle america crowd.

I dont think there will ever be away to do strike mission contests because they need to lease the land and essentially the break. At least in margis they have three different venues now...I still think they are doing a pretty good job with what they have. Plus when the conditions line up and they get to run the contest at the box, tell me that wasnt awesome to watch...fact is surf relies on mother nature, and isnt easy to deal with...but they should swap brazil for gland and bring the event back there...problem is there is too big of a surf industry now in brazy land to not throw them a bone...would be nice if they at least had it in a spot thats not a toxic waste land and actually sees consistent good surf..IMO

You're right....it would probably be a logistical nightmare to try and do a strike mission contest but the if the Big Wave World Tour can do it, then it's possible. I wonder if they could put in a permit for Snapper (as an example) for the entire month of March and specify that there will only be 3 or 4 days of actual contest surfing. Then they could hit the area during the best swell that month. If that's possible, they at least have a better shot of being on good waves.

Yes, that big day at Margret's was awesome to watch. Too bad it isn't like that all the time. JJF was doing some next level shit.

    A few things
Only contests I will watch is teahup'o and cloud break when it's big, otherwise it's nothing you can't see here on any given weekend in Santa Cruz. The big wave tour is another story, those guys are a different breed.

I went down south over the weekend. We got lost as fuck, and ended up taking the 'alternative route' to the break, which consisted of this little 2 track that cut through all these ranches. Don't think anyone had driven the route in the last 6 months or so, and with all this rain it was in pretty rough condition. (3.5 hours to go 3.5 miles!). anyway, we made it, and scored sizeable barreling surf in offshore winds for 2 days straight. Definitely a trip to remember.

Hope everyone in SoCal has been taking advantage of the last couple days of good surf.

    SCORE!

i've never been further than San Miguel. Heard great things about the camping sites past there. have you ever had issues with cops wanting more than a cash payoff? some of my buddies won't even cross the border because they're afraid of getting robbed at gunpoint or killed. haha.

Everything from hand planes and hand shaped alaias, body boards, grovelers, high performance shorties, weirdo boards and Costcos to 12' bark and a Malibu two kayak. Not a single day out of the year I can't find wave propulsion on this variety of craft.

My go to for most stuff this year is a 5'10" Grizzly model by Stacey at 26 liters. But I really enjoy my 5'7" weirdo ripper and 5'11" mayhem a lot too.

Usually add or replace a board or two a year. Keeps it fresh. But makes it a board orgy in my garage. IMG_5031.jpg

Was doing a few repairs today and ended up with most of the boards in the same room. Since this is about quivers, here is the quiver shot

Lady got bit this evening at San Onofre. Not sure if she was swimming or surfing. Whiteys on the prowl in south county. Watch out. Was seen breaching at trestles 2 weeks ago and earlier this week a big mama was seen chomping a dead whale carcass 14 mikes off Dana point
