A couple years ago, I bought the MINI-VCI adapter with drivers and software from fleabay, only to find out it would not install the driver on newer versions of windows. Not being a computer guru, I tried one method at the time to install it i found online, only to get a virus from the registry editor download. Needless to say, I deleted all traces of it, cleaned up my HD with Kaspersky, and threw the damn thing in the bottom of a drawer.

Fast forward to yesterday - I'm helping a friend troubleshoot some issues on his 2006 Tundra, and I really wanted it working. I did some searching hoping someone had come out with a solution or newer driver installer, and this is what I found.

    https://ln.sync.com/dl/8ddb4eaf0#wr8nj94y-zafv6xwg-sebgcdrh-uihkntk2

Needless to say, I updated my Kaspersky and backed up all my info before beginning. Download the "Toyota Techstream Installation Manual - Windows 10.pdf Toyota Techstream Installation Manual - Windows 10.pdf " from the link, it's an illustrated step-by-step instruction manual that is flawless except for the file name in step 16 - that should read "Toyota Techstream 10.30.029.exe". I downloaded all the files except the russian?? installation manual at the bottom and burned them to a disc for future use if needed, and printed the 17 page installation manual so I could follow step-by-step. It worked perfectly, about 45 min later I had techstream connected to my truck and working fine. I did have to install Java to make techstream happy, and choose my language and region on the techstream installation screens that was not mentioned in the instructions, but that was straightforward. I ran a full system scan with no issues found, and it's working for me. Unfortunately, that's all the guarantee and tech support I know how to give, but I did want to share the good news.

    FYI

anyone wanting to try this, use a laptop of computer (or virtual machine) that you have zero personal information
on and you do not banking or commerce with.

#1 top attack vector (phishing, malware, spyware...etc) is from these kinds of unauthorized downloads.

Techstream is a paid-for item from Toyota. any pirated copies, wow rolling the dice there....

go ahead and use it but on a laptop that is disposable and you do zero personal or private work with

Would someone PLEASE post some GOOD step by step instructions on how to install the techstream software on windows 10 64. Ive tried 15 different tutorials on windows 10 and XP and have yet to complete the installation. I could get to the connect vehicle step, but it then prompts me that there is a new version of techstream and i am FORCED to install. The version I got with my cable is 10.30.029, but the message says this is out of date as of March 2016.

    The tutorial i followed was:

    http://blog.obd365.com/2016/02/22/how-to-install-toyota-tis-techstream-v10-30-029/

but again, I cant connect to my vehicle because it forces me to install the latest version. Of course clicking on Install takes you to the official TIS site and asks for user passwords.

    Can anyone help??

BTW my vehicle is a 2016 Tacoma Limited.

    Thanks.

That's the same version I installed, I followed the installation manual (PDF file in the link I gave above) to a tee - I actually printed the darn thing to make it easier to follow step-by-step. I have not had any issues with a "Forced update", used it as recently as last week with only one small issue - It won't diplay the DTC screen for TPMS - but will show the Data and will program sensor ID's. I have not tried connecting to a 2016 or newer, so that could be the difference, but 10.30.029 is an early 2016 version, so???

    Hi landphil,

I followed the instructions to a when I extract the contents of the folder "MVCI Driver for Toyota TIS.zip" it detects the FirmwareUpdateTool and MVCI32.dll as a virus and my anti-virus deletes it.

I don't really want to turn off my anti-virus just to make this thing work. I'm assuming these 2 files are false positives, but I was wondering if you ran into the same issue.

    Daniel,

The OP got infected as part of the process, the second post tells you that downloading unauthorized software is the no. 1 method of getting a virus/hacked, and your own anti-virus software is detecting a virus trying to be installed by the same unauthorized download. And your assumption is that the anti-virus program is wrong? And you want to plug this into your $30k vehicle?

This whole thread is the ghost of Christmas future telling you not to do it.

Good luck and keep us posted,

    Pat

    Hi Chester,

Originally the OP got infected as part of the process, and he states after that happened he gave up on it. Fast forward to the future, OP has found some better files and retried with a lot of success.

I have also followed the instructions to the T and was able to finally connect the vehicle to the laptop using the mini cable and software. The issue I have is when I go to program the smart key for my vehicle I get an error message:

This is on the selection screen after you connect the vehicle and select your make and model of the car, and then select "Smart Access" to program a smart key.

Does anyone know how to resolve this issue? I am trying to program a backup smart key for my Lexus IS250 2007.

I did not run into any virus warnings despite scanning everything with Kaspersky, so I wouldn't trust it when you are getting warnings.

I have had a similar issue with the techstream program - mine will not display or clear TPMS codes, but will display live data and allow sensor ID's to be programmed. I suspect these few flaws have something to do with where we "aquired" the software. I'm really not sure.

I spent the greater part of my day trying to get it working and I think I've finally hit rock bottom of trying to program a backup key for my Lexus IS250 2007. I think I'll end up taking it to a locksmith for the 70$ job since I already have the key ready to be programmed. It will likely take him less than 15 minutes.

Perhaps in the future, I'll give it another try again on an older laptop that runs Windows XP.

    Thanks for the help.

I know that feeling too well. I have not tried using mine to program a key yet, though I think the options are different for with a Tacoma and Tundra than what your screen shot shows for your Lexus. the good news, it that Techstream itself is the easy part - it's the MINI-VCI driver installation that is the hard part. Perhaps there is a more current version of Techstream you could download and install.

Quick note on techstream 10.x with windows 7 or greater x64 with the 1.4.1 (and possibly the 2.0.1) Mini VCI cable. I was having absolute fits trying to get the driver recognized. Turns out the cable was being recognized as a Broadcom Bluetooth 3.0 Chip. If you select that device, Select Update driver, Select Let me Pick From a list of device drivers on my computer (letting windows scan a specific location doesnt work), then click have disk and browse to the location of your MCVI drivers (Should be C:\Program Files (x86)\XHorse Electronics\MVCI Driver for TOYOTA TIS\) and go to the ftdibus directory and select the ftdibus.inf file. This will get the correct drivers in place for the bus. The COM drivers will install automatically after you get the bus driver in place.

Hopefully the search engines pick this up and it is helpful for someone else.

6”rough country lift, 35” bfg mud terrain, step bars, home made solid 5" bull bar frame mounted top and bottom with gussets ( used an excavator to completely suspend the truck in the air held only by the bull bar), 180k, no rust, no leaks, no cel's, no issues. 4wd conversion with front and rear e-lockers.
I did the same download and turned off my firewall becsause old truck and tablet used for only this. And it worked fine.. able to do anything on any yota. EXCEPT on a 2015 avalon. It wont let me view live data but can still program everything.. cant do active tests cuz it has to load live data to do them. Can view live data for other parts of the system except the main ecu.. the important one.. it pops up an error message saying couldnt load and create an error log if keeps happening.. is odd cuz works on other areas in the vehicle and still works fine on the other vehicles but the avalon is pissing it off for some reason, I’m betting its some bit of code in the update that didnt go through right for certain vehicle links.. wish i was one of those programmer geniuses but i chose to want to go fast and get fucked up everyday since i could make my own choices so yea, now i got a problem of thinking its just a fart all the time..
