They probably didn't want to pay the 6% fee or whatever it is for them to take plastic. I wrote um a personal check and had zero issues ...

I can only dream of one day walking into a dealership and paying cash outright for a rig. Good job!.... and cash buyers are in fact a car sales-persons worst client because they can't futz with the numbers (number of months financing, monthly payments, interest rates, trade-in value).

Exactly my experience. I can't imagine a dealer saying "we don't take cash."

My dealer even suggested putting $5k of the purchase price on to my VISA to score some points. Hell, why not.

My dealer let me put $5000 on my Visa and write a check for the balance. I would have paid for the whole thing on my card for the points but the dealer capped me at $5000 since it cost them 3% for the transaction.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't surprised when they said they'd take a personal check, especially one for a large amount.

My dealer wanted to finance my truck so bad. They didnt believe I was going to pay cash. The sales mgr actually said. "Hey some people want to say they are paying cash when they are really using their bank loan and we can make you a better deal" They took a check.

Boom. ^ And the retailer fee can change depending on their credit worthiness. I've seen/heard fees as high as 3%. Additionally, banks sometimes hold certain amounts back pending certain transaction thresholds depending on the retailer.

8 out of the top 10 cities with cash real estate transactions are in FL... So paying cash for a relatively cheap vehicle isn't too crazy.

When i sold one of my vehicles, the buyer showed up at the bank with a backpack filled with $19k in cash. Quite interesting.

Here's a thought. Go to the dealer and find the truck you want. Then negotiate the best price you can with the longest term loan you can get. After the dealer agrees to that price, and the truck is delivered, just pay for it right then and there. Simple.

Yep. I did almost everything by email. Found the truck I wanted 600 miles away. MSRP was 37,509. After a few emails back and forth, then a phone call, we agreed on $32,509 for my TRD Off Road. Way better price than I could get locally. My credit union cut them a check and the truck was delivered a week later.

But the extra paperwork at the bank...checks make it easier...to me at least. Otherwise I feel like I just came from a poorly executed colonoscopy.

It is pretty easy. Pay of your current truck. Once paid off continue to make yourself payments (that is save). It means keeping the same vehicle for 8-10 years. In the end, you pretty much can pay cash for your next vehicle. Been doing this for years.

I think you are doing it wrong. My last 6 vehicles have been cash. Find vehicle you want, talk to dealer, negioate otd price, turn up with cashiers check, and done, drive off with vehicle. Finance twit always tries to talk you into finance, but only ever been a 1 min convention.

Unless you are a millionaire what's the huge benefit of buying all cash? I see people bagging on others that finance vehicles.

Maybe I'm a dumb American but say I had 80k savings (which I don't) and I can either buy a truck and piss away half of my savings and own a truck. Or finance it (with good terms of course) and keep the majority of my savings - assume I put some money down.
