it controls when the transmission shifts, when ECT is on it holds each gear a little longer before shifting. it also effects the throttle response, someone else here can better explain that.
i have posted in the past, drive the truck at 40 MPH with ECT engaged holding at 40MPH push the ECT button to disable it and you will feel like the truck is slightly breaking. try driving in both modes and you will see why some of us like it on all the time. one good test is turning right from a stop when merging into on coming traffic, you can feel a big advantage with RCT on.

Just wondering this is harmless for the tranny and the truck itself?

Someone might be able to correct me if i am wrong.. But haven't most if not all toyota AT tacomas had ECT since the 80's?

I remember my brothers old 84 supra had an ECT button

Don't think Toyota would put a button there is it was harmful to the vehicle.
Unfortunately tech stream does not have an option for ECT on all the time

did you cut and splice into the wires from the ECT switch and lighter power source or did you do a clamp (saddle) to connect to the wires i mentioned?

Hey guys, quick question. I mount all my relays in the engine bay to keep things clean. Looking at doing this and wanted to know if this relay would work instead of the standard relay + alpine adapter.

    https://www.delcity.net/store/Time-...zUMR8LxdkDBCTaA3NKtmPN03iFURyCs3JIaAlzA8P8HAQ

I'm thinking set a 5 second delay and I should be good. It also mentions this is a solid state relay, but honestly, I don't know if it provides the protection someone else mentioned a few pages ago.

    Thoughts?

@kahanabob I finally did this today using @mesojdm instructions, worked first time. I build a tiny harness, but used the module and relay that is mentioned here. Two things to note.

    1. To get 2nd bezel off (with the push to start button), pull the panel to the left out, you don't have to remove it all, just pop that one part to the right of the steering wheel out, just that clip. It flexes out of the way and lets you pop the panel off easier.

    2. It wasn't hard to do, and the default setting of the TR7 module works perfect for me.

Thanks for the write up Mes.
