What do you guys think is the best length of time to keep a truck? Up here in the Northeast we have a lot of salt so that make a difference.

Don't tell them you're paying cash until you get them to a agree a deal. Same thing if you have outside financing, they may not want to give you a better deal.

Wash that salt off periodically or get your chassis coated and it should last FOREVER.

Mine would not take debit. They wanted cashier's check only. Same B's.

My 99 Tacoma been around salt air since day one. Not even a spec of rust, but my clear coat is gone in the hood.

Again, not sure the dealership cares where the money comes from, the government is a different story.

Just don't tell the dealership how you're paying until you settle on a price.

Dealerships are weird about this and I can't figure out why. It is a done deal, and less effort on their part to take cash... I would think. I offered cash on mine and they really gave me the run around. I negotiated as much as I could off the sticker price (5 hours of BS and waiting) and they persisted on a payment plan, even after we had agreed on an out the door price (What the Hell???). I finally told the salesman, you can either take my cash or I can take it to the Nissan dealership next door.

Because they need more than $576.00. Even a 3rd Gen.

Even better , when they ask how much a month you can afford (asinine ? as far as I am concerned ) let them play games in their own minds as to how much they can make on financing . They may offer a great price if you are willing to pay a higher rate for 8 years or so ,but get a no prepayment penalty loan . Then just pull out the checkbook and pay for it early .

My dad walked out a deal for a SR over 123$ the dealer called him back the minute we walked out and called two more times that day, he ended up going to a different dealer that night and getting his truck lol

As you have been told they make more money on financed vehicles. Well the dealer I purchased from is 6 hours away and the local dealer & me had a falling out over the dealer charges buying a new Tacoma. Since I was paying cash they did not want to show me how much crap they were adding. They wanted $1724.00 dealer charges which I asked for them to breakout, which they did reluctantly. Fees included $299 for nitrogen in tires, $428 to title and license fee of $200 to transfer my tag + their single line $800 dealer fee. Save over $1000 in dealers fees by buying elsewhere. I reported the gouging to Toyota and received a threating email from the local dealer sales person. We have a huge AF base near us and I am really upset with the dealer because IMHO they are taking advantage of our local service men & women. Anyway going to another dealer is my choice.

at 1.99% I would keep it for life of lone. But at 4.9 I will probably pay it in a few months.

Cause that's how the Mafia and bank robbers do things. No trail to audit or tip off the Federales...

At least this is what I've learned from the movies :D

Cash is no big deal up here in Canada. I paid cash with a bank draft - routine thing. Except for the type of cheque it was same way that I buy everything else.
