I installed my rock lights the other day and have an extra switch. Can anyone tell me how I can go about taking my dome lit rock lights and also have them turn on via switch.

So right now your rock lights only come on when the dome light comes on? And you would like to also be able to make them come on independently with a switch?

Why would you want your dome light to come on with your ditch lights? Doesn't that seem contradictory? I mean turn on dome lite it's a lot harder to see outside at night....confused...

They are more like courtesy lights. They come on when the door opens/unlocks and shuts off when the door closes or locks.

How do you currently have it wired? Do you have the positive on a constant hot, and the ground tapped into the domelight ground?

The switch to the dome light doesn't turn them on. I'd like to have a dash switch to turn them on as well as keep the ability for them to automatically come on when I unlock or open the door

IIRC, the dome light dims through a switched ground. All he'd have to do is run a second ground wire through a switch on the dash and he'd have total control of the lights.

    That'd be an easy fix.

OP you want to make sure you're asking questions clearly and providing as much error free info as you can when looking for technical info.

Plus he didn't say what he wanted to actually do until post 8, and just a few posts before that he said rock lights, then changed them to puddle lamps.

    All clear now though.

If you could do a rough wiring diagram that'd be great. Wiring and being sick is not my strong suit haha. Right now I'm hooked into the blue and yellow wire for the dome lights.

I'm loving those, wanted those for my land cruiser but we just got my girlfriend a 4Runner and now she wants them. Not to mention I was looking into putting a set on my 80 I just got :anonymous:. Need more rim options from SCS.
