I carry Hornady Critical Defense in it when I carry it. Have only fed 25 rnds of that through it to make sure it feeds.

For "shooting" I'm using some remanufactured ball ammo so that could be an issue as well. Bought it all at once so "same batch" in theory. (Think I bought either 300 or 500rnds)

Kimber makes a beautiful pistol but I've heard so many people complain about reliability problems with them. Had a coworker who bought a Kimber Crimson Trace Commander years ago. That's what turned me on to 1911. Felt so much better to shoot than my G23 (don't have now) or XDM .40.

Would LOVE a Wilson Combat 1911... but $$$. Springfield makes some pretty ones. Have an uncle with a Colt Gold Cup that he swears by.

I have learned though that any future 1911 I get will have bobtail grips. Definitely. Mine is way too pointed and I don't find that comfortable. Also might want a picatinny as well.

I'm a sucker for the engraved stuff. I would take a triple black though. IMG_0223.jpg I know they are all hand made but I just can't talk myself in to that kind of money.

Interesting about the reliability issues with Kimbers... I hadn't heard this before. To be honest, I've shot quite a few Kimbers that I absolutely DID NOT like, but the Super Carry stole my heart. I sacrificed the bobtail so I could carry it more easily and sometimes I really regret that... I've put several thousand rounds through it and I'm not sure I've ever had more than one, maybe two, misfeeds.

I'd love a Wilson, but yeah, cost is just insane.... My dad carries a nice Colt Gold Cup that he loves, as well. I've shot it a few times and it's nice, but not enough for me to run out and buy one. My next 1911 will probably be a Sig, actually. I'm partial to them and their 1911 is fine as hell.

Why do we have such expensive hobbies?!

    LoL Because.... 'Merica?

    Fun shit costs.

Broke down and bought a Windham Weaponry AR few months ago. Put 60 rnds through it yesterday for fun. Want an optic for it. Mo money. Iron sights for now.

Just like trucks.... need all the mods. I get stuck between leaving my guns alone and building them up the way I want because my students shoot my pistols. Teaching a newbie shooter to use a red dot sight or just about any other pistol modification is a pain in the ass... I'm seriously thinking about doubling up on at least one of my pistols so one can stay for students and I can do whatever I want to the other...

Never had a problem with my Kimbers except their shitty, proprietary external extractors which are no longer used and all problem slides so equipped were fully replaced under warranty.

Dented brass isn't something I've ever seen, but wonder if the extractor needs tuning and it's happening on ejection, maybe it's getting pinched before the slide is fully open.

FTLs could be weak springs, dirty feed ramp, bad feed ramp angle. Could just be poor ammo, but I've shot tens of thousands of rounds of surplus ball and can't fill a hand of fingers if I counted problems I've had with them.

Emory paper would help polish the ramp.

I've never actually known anyone who limp wrists. Not sure if it's a myth, but 1911s are not as finicky as they're made out to be, particularly the looser, lower to lower middle end 1911s.

Bare in mind also the smaller than full size 1911s are more prone to issues IMO. The original design was a 5" gun, and when slides shrink to 3-3.5", they're just trying to replicate the function of a 5" gun, which is sometimes problematic.

The ONLY gun I've ever had limp wrist issues with was that VP9. And it gave me those issues no matter if I shot two handed, one hand weak, or one hand strong. I have, however had a few students with the same issue. Rare that it acrually creates a problem, though.

Pull up to the gas station to grab a drink and I look inside, and there's a dude with a ski mask standing on the customer side of the counter.

Then he looks over and walks out of my view.

There's another dude standing inside with a coffee and a donut, so I figure they're probably not being robbed.

Go inside and it's the cashier with the bandana over his face. It's almost 60 degrees outside and he's that cold?

    Weird look dude.

Yeah I'm wondering about the extractor too. Hear many folks talk about polishing feed ramps. I know mine wasn't dirty!! I like to keep my shit clean.

Yah. Might have to get a full size next time around. Plus, longer barrel equals faster bullet.

    I heartily recommend Springfield 1911s.

Kimber has been good to me, but they're a lower value handgun.

Springfield is the finest value 1911 available, and lifetime warranty and excellent customer service.

I've either owned or extensively handled their lowest end model and their highest (TRP Professional's x3) and all are excellent for their price points.

If you really like a high level of fit and finish, with a lot of hand work and human involvement then check into Les Baer 1911s. They're just a few hundred more than Kimber, and the difference in craftsmanship is well worth it. I had a TRS and sold it and it's my biggest regret of all my sales. Beautiful gun.

FWIW, my Kimber TLE RL shoots the same groups as the Baer, but it also has a matched slide/frame and is hand fit, just like the Baer.

Not sure this is the norm with Kimber outside of the higher end Kimber models. :notsure:

Yeah I'd enjoy a Les Baer too!

My Ruger was obvious a budget 1911 - and a Black Friday impulse buy. Definitely not a high end tight fit gun. Ironically the safety switch, which was scary loose when I first got it, has tightened up as I've shot it.

It now to it so far was an extended slide stop I bought from Wilson Combat. Short thumbs...
