Towing: What's the most that you've towed?

    And how did it handle?

I'd like to pull a Kubota BX23 (about 2700 lbs) on a 16" dual axle trailer with my 2015 Access Cab. I've never pulled anything more than a lawn mower or quad on a small single axle trailer.

Just looking for feedback on experiences. Thanks!

I towed a car (3300 lbs) on a Uhaul car hauler (1500 lbs) across 5 states through the mountains. It handled fine, just kept it in 4th gear and left plenty of room to stop.

Towed my wife's car (2,570 lbs) On a uhaul dolley from Arizona to Vigrinia. Handled like the extra car wasn't there. I was passing people going up hills in Colorado and West Virginia. Overall the rpms were higher but that's really about it

I towed a 1979 f250 on a flat bed car hauler, total weight 5800lbs for 190 miles. It sucked, was pushing the tacoma all over the place and my engine Temps were running high. After that I've kept my top weight below 4500lbs.

My trailer is 18' and weighs 2500lbs unloaded. Tractor dressed with loader & counterweight is probably 1700. I also brought a 500# propane tank up this trip, truck handles it good. Fuel economy shows a major hit as expected...
Helper bags are a must since the springs on these trucks are so soft

I towed a uhaul trailer, about five thousand total, from Florida to Seattle and it performed flawlessly, even averaged about 14 MPG for the trip at 65-70 MPH. I did add a tranny cooler and sumosprings as a precaution.

Florida to Washington; it doesn't get any farther unless it's Southern California to Maine. That's pretty good mileage for that weight.

It handles like it has 5,000lbs behind it. Been on several long trips in the Sierra Mtns and the truck does fine. Spend some time on the towing subforum for setup and driving tips.

It's not a ton of weight but I have towed my 4500~lbs airstream about 20k miles in the last 18 months.

But then again I towed the airstream 40k miles with a Toyota Venza before the transmission went out (shocker. haha)

I towed 35,000lbs a few miles once. Was super fun but also had a slight pucker factor given I'm not experienced in manuvering such things. But it handled like a dream compared to what I thought it would be. F350 DIEZUL!

You didn't specify it had to be w/ a Tacoma.

I've towed a Ford 8n tractor with a bush hog on a heavy 16' trailer a few times. Tractor weighs about 2800 wet (wheel weights added), bush hog probably 300-350 and the trailer probably about 2000. Had probably 500 pounds of feed and gear in the bed so over 5600 pounds not including my 200# fat ass.

Make sure to balance the load on the trailer properly so about 10-20% of the load weight is on the tongue. More than that and it's just excessive weight on the truck, less and the trailer is susceptible to sway.

I've pulled this load about 75 miles one way over Florida flat terrain in mid summer heat without issue. I didn't go over 55 mph and ran in 4th gear and it's a rather easy pull considering.

I used to pull this same load with a 3/4 ton Chevy with a 6.0 v8 and admittedly, this was a better vehicle for towing than the Tacoma, but the Tacoma is easier to live with daily.

5x10 enclosed trailer fully loaded with house items and the bed loaded with lawnmower engines and cornhole boards. Don't have a picture or I'd post it. Probably around 3000 pounds behind the ole 4 banger. And she felt it for sure. Trailer alone is 1000 lbs. I pull it regularly with either a cub cadet 42" zero turn or a 250 Honda recon

Towed around 4500 lbs, with an enclosed 6x12 Uhaul trailer from San Francisco to Denver. I have a MT, and was able to stay in 6th and cruise controlled the majority of the time. Which helped with the 14 mpg average. The Super Charger also helped some :)
