Removing/swapping hoods: This fake scoop is dumb

Ok--so I have tried for a few days now to "look past" the absolutely-silly hood-scoop-wanna-be on my TRD Sport....it's not working. I see it from afar, I see it from behind the wheel. That stupid thing impedes airflow and visibility, for what seems to be *zero* functional advantage.

Is it ridiculous to try and swap this hood out for a non-scooped version? I'm no expert in makes/models, but I'm guessing a bone-stock (or even just non TRD) tacoma of the same year would have a compatible hood. I suppose the tricky part is finding the color match in my area.

Depends, but usually your scooped hood will bring a non-scooped and some $. And yes it is just about finding the color match.

    What year is your?

    Welcome to the fun!

    Bought!! So stoked.

Need to update my profile. DCLB, '06, TRD sport, 167k miles, got (what I think) was a great deal, but had to act fast. Loving it. Changed out the front and rear diff fluids and transfer case, getting the tranny serviced this week.....all precautionary. Bought it off a young kid, so wasn't real sure how well he'd treated it. So far, so good...fluids were super clean and truck drives like a champ.

Swapping it may hurt your resale cause I swear some guys buy the whole truck just to get the scoop.

But if you're gonna keep the truck, do what YOU want.

Just curious, but what all models got the scoop? All TRD's, or just the TRD Sport and X-Runner? Mine has it, and I kinda like being able to see from inside the cab.

That is a good point, but I do think I'm going to hold onto this truck for a long time.

I wonder how tough it is to change hoods...

    Too much to list!
You have the early style scoop that is thin and tall. My 2007 has that type while my 2015 has the newer, wider and flatter style. The old one sure does stick up a lot. Maybe you can find the newer style, that way it's less intrusive and won't kill the value.

Nice. I think I can handle that.

I'd post it in the marketplace but my account is too young....so here it is: Anyone want to trade?? Silver streak, 2006, TRD Sport. In great shape. Looking for a non-scooped version, in case the above thread didn't clue you in. In central Oregon and not too keen to drive very far.

    Reserected from the dead.
And 2 people minimum. 3 works the best. 2 to hold each side of the hood and 1 to remove the bolts.

I am sure you will find a Silver Streak Mica TRD Off-Road who will swap.

Best of luck with the swap. Post pics to this thread if you get a chance.
