It's the aftermarket version of the Toyota tank straps with the studs on them. $45 for the set, as opposed to $66 for one and $76 for the other.

Will update once I receive them in case quality is not up to par. In a lot of cases though, with such a specialty part like "gas tank straps with studs on them" it's probably even made by the same exact supplier.

Feeling pretty stoked that I stumbled across that.

 

I have a question. Is the band in the center of non OR and Pro straps not metal. I glanced at the ones on my sport and thought it was metal. Could be wrong though.

If it's metal I'll just use carriage bolt washer and locknut.

They are indeed metal, and it looks like on the truck there is a rubber liner that fits against the tank to prevent chafing.

 

So the OEM ones rust?? not sure why replace them?

Because if your truck didn't come with one of those, it has no studs on the straps.

 

I'm a bit confused.

1. Favourite seller - that you, OP? Serious question as I haven't seen you sell other items (or haven't paid enough attention).
2. Do these replace OEM straps, or are these an "extra" item?
3. What role do these play with fuel tank skids?
4. If these are required to install a fuel tank skid, would these work with all aftermarket skids, or is there something specific I'd need to look for when choosing a skid?

I want a fuel tank skid for my TRD Sport, but haven't researched it yet, thus the confusion.

 

Ah, this clarifies things a bit for me.

Is that the standard method of adding aftermarket fuel-tank skids?

 

1. No no, I just meant Amazon / rockauto / whoever you personally like shopping from the best. I have no retail store.
2. They replace OEM straps. TRD Off Roads came with them, every other Tacoma did not.
3. The studs allow you to bolt the skid to the tank (well, you use nuts to hold them on but "nut the skids to the tank" sounds silly)
4. Yes it's the standard OEM pattern which all aftermarket skid people should follow.

The standard method so far has appeared to be:
1: buy a TRD Off Road instead
or
2: Go to the dealer and pay $66 for the front strap, and $76 for the rear strap.

This product is an aftermarket replacement part that is both straps for less money.

RCI and Pelfreybilt for sure, but a lot of others as well.

Well Rockauto is pretty badass, I got these in 2 days for $53 shipped.

Spot welds look pretty bog standard:


And fasteners are clean and true:


No galling or machining flakes on the threads and they look to be inserted true and spot welded in properly.

So yeah, nothing that would make me suspect of their quality, aside from the fact that I thought OEM units had a black painted finish.

Can someone with a TRD Offroad kindly take a peek at their straps? Am I just hallucinating or are the OEM units black painted??

I may just rattle can them myself...

What does it matter what color they are. Doesn't the skid cover up the straps?

I should have been more specific, my concern is corrosion and not color. These have some sort of coating on them I think, but I was wondering if the OE used a different (possibly superior?) paint coat.
