Keep in mind that those tend to cause more damage if you hit something in a relatively slow speed crash.

Thank you vssman. I am in the process of purchasing one of these, and you have given me cause to rethink the purchase. I found some information that confirms what you said:

Keep in mind that you're now transferring impact to the frame. While that sounds good in that the soft parts of the car won't get damaged in a low speed collision, it has downsides. At some point the frame is going to bend, and it's likely to happen at a lower impact than you would expect. I'd rather replace body panels than have to do a frame pull (nowadays a car is usually totaled rather than even attempting a frame pull). You're also giving up the spreading of impact over time as the frame does not give so gently as the other parts. This could lead to increased chance of occupant injury and death.

Great for off-road vehicles where you might need to limp back to civilization after having "too much fun". In a normal street going car, well, maybe not so much... https://mechanics.stackexchange.com/questions/8514/how-much-protection-do-grill-guards-give

Also, one person reported that the front and rear guards were each moved inward during low speed bumps by other cars which means the frame is taking the hit.

    I found these pics too:

However, it appears the ARB bull bar is a different deal altogether. Found this on another forum: They hit a deer, and "The bumper didn't shift at all front to back or side to side." http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/general-discussion/72642-arb-bull-bar-vs-deer.html

Now I want one of these, but oh the price!!!
