I'm in the process of converting my truck into a weekend camping machine, and I'm in the market for a camper shell with extra headroom.

I came across ProTops (specifically the High Rise 100 / 300) from a quick google search and was curious if anyone here has had any experience with these models.

    Looking for recommendations as well!

Man keep an eye out on craigslist - every month or so a high top shell comes up for a steal - you have to be patient though. I'm fixing up my shell that I don't need the Thule racks on so I can sell it and get one of these too. Had a couple come and go that were so awesome, but I'm stuck atm.

I'll keep an eye out for you in your area while I'm on CL. Have any feedback on the ProTop models specifically?

I've never heard anything about them tbh. Someone else might have some personal experience with them though. @Speedytech7 has a cool high top shell on his truck here:

He and I talked about it and it seems like a lot of different companies possibly used the same factory to produce his kind of shell. Innovation was one of them, Raven might have been another. The first gen body style has been out for so long that a lot of shell styles have come out for it over the years.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
There are tons of first gen shells out there. My hightop is made by Raider, hard to find parts for it nowadays but there are plenty of junk ones to buy parts off if I suppose. If anyone in Eastern Washington or North Idaho wants mine I'll sell it off for $50. I don't really need it, the paint sucks and there is no rear window. But both can be easily fixed, no damage to the actual shell integrity.

I bought a Raven high-top shell in 1998 when I bought my TRD. I replace the "sealing" tape every 5 or 6 years, and I also change the rubber around the rear hatch window. Have not had a single problem. (Hmmmm, looks like it's time to replace the sealing tape again...)

Toytec coilovers. Height adjustable Bilstein's. 265/75/16 MT. TRD wheels. Rebuilt r150f. Marlin clutch kit. All kinds of new parts...
I was lucky and picked up a unicover for $200 off Craigslist. Not a hightop but it has a light inside, sliding side windows with screens. Great for camping!
