Recently one of my bilstein 5100 rear shocks busted and has been leaking. I rode these shocks for a while until i bought shock extenders, bottoming out at full droop because they were the regular 5100s not the B110s for 3-4 inch lifts. They have about 100k anyway so it's time to swap

I have the new recall-fix leaf springs installed with a 3 inch block. Im looking to stay around $200-300. Should i go with Toytecs boss series that claim 1-3" , or back with Bilsteins with the B110s for 3-4"? Any reviews or opinions on these or others that may be around the same price/quality? I did see some 4runner threads where the Boss shafts broke off, not sure if they corrected this issue.

Curious though, were you wheeling when you busted your shock? Do you think you over extended or over compressed?
My thinking is measure your shock requirements. If your setup have worn out at all and your compressed space is less than the 16+" of the B110's compressed length then you may bust these too. The stock 5100's are 14".

Nope, just going over train tracks or large bumps in the road I would here a slam right as the truck would reach full flex. I tested this by jumping on the tailgate, it had plenty of room for compression but would slam the shocks fully extended. After i installed the extenders from toytec it never happened again, lots of movement both ways without maxing them out. The extenders add 3" to the 5100s I had which were compatible for 0-1" lift if Im not mistaken. This is why i feel the B110's would be sufficient. I'm sure if i had ordered the correct ones from the beginning they would have lasted much longer, but the roads here are not great and were pretty harsh on them. Wondering if i should replace my front 5100s too but they seem fine. :notsure:
