Anyone go to Anza for Black Friday? My sister might be going but not if it's too packed. Dispersed camping maybe near fish creek

It will be desert season by then, so you can count on it being packed.. Not very many people camp by fish creek because of the closed perimeter camping area and split mountain properties, but it should be a good time nonetheless.

It's always nice meeting people in the desert because they're always friendly which is a great trait to carry on.

Might head to Anza soon .Wanna dispersed camp. I've done sheep canyon but maybe somewhere near fish Creek this time. Plan to spend time at the caves and visit fonts point. Any recommendations to setup camp one or two nights?

Anywhere in fish creek that's away from the actual path is always nice and peaceful.

Ever thought of Coyote Canyon from Anza down the Turkey Track then thru the canyon into Anza Borrego . Then thru the Carrizo badlanda East towards the Salton Sea

This the route made famous by the Hemet Jeep club called the Hemet Jeep Calvacade !!

Middle of the canyon has been closed to vehicle traffic for a while now, can’t connect the trail all the way through

That sucks Coyote Canyon used to be a fun trip !!!

I even remember being able to go from Los Coyotes Indian Reservation to Coyote Canyon . Also when both the Turkey Track (Anza side ) and the bypass near at th Borrego Springs side ) was challenging with technical rock crawling sections over Big builders

Los coyotes is before my time but I’ve seen pictures and heard stories. Looks like the hardest trails south of Johnson valley for sure. Maybe someday they’ll open it back up

Yes Los Coyotes had some awesome trails like El Hill , Bronco hill and Toboggan hill , any of these three areas if you didn't pick the right line resulted in a nasty rollover

Dug up this thread from a while back

My lady and I might go to Anza this weekend for a little camping. Was looking for some recommendations for some scenic places to camp. A place with some good views and a little hiking would be optimal. undeveloped campsites are ok with us. Doing sme quick research on my own it seemed culp Valley campground might be pretty cool. any of you guys been there? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Little Blair valley would be ideal for you. Short hike nearby to some petroglyphs written on some rocks. Finding them is the hard part though

I like Split Mountain... lots of sites to check out if you have 4WD. Get one of the guidebooks for locations of petroglyphs, dinosaur tracks, Palisades, Diablo Dropoff, etc.

I’ve done both. It’s steep, but you go pretty much straight down so as long as you don’t make driver error you’re fine. Getting to it is fun if you’re coming from the top wash because of “the squeeze”

Depending on the condition of the hill it can be cake walk or scary decent or climb

Last time I climbed this hill was in the early 90's and it was raining making for fun and slippery climb
