Just looking for feedback from those that have them. Pros/cons.... what about carrying a canoe/kayak/boat?

Mid rise Raider Cobra (a.k.a. Leer 180) --> see sig pic
Helps a little more with guiding air over whatever I'm towing, 36" from surface of tailgate to top of window frame. Overall height increase is minimal compared to a cab height one, and I can sit straight up in my box comfortably if need be
I don't tie anything to my roof so I can't comment on that

The only issue (besides it being a tiny bit more awkward for getting things mounted on top of the cap) would be if you wanted to also secure the canoe/kayak to the cab of the truck as well. If that's the case you'll need to make some sort of riser to make up the difference in height.

I cannot say enough about my high-rise cap but that is strictly a utilitarian point of view. I am a construction surveyor. I primarily work out of my truck so I pull out a knee pad, climb in, sit upright on my storage box and work on a laptop which is in front of me at elbow height (which is 2 milk crates high). Beats the heck out of sitting behind the steering wheel with the laptop in front of me so it is luxurious for me.

The inside of the high-rise cap at its peak is 12 inches higher then the cab of the truck. It steps up to that height twice. The first step is 8 inches high, I have a 4' bar that sits up 4" and another 4' bar across the rear of the cap.
    Fun friggin :)

I moved from a Leer 180 (above cab) to a Snugtop Rebel (cab height). I did this mainly because I run a roof top tent on top of my shell the majority of the time. The cab height shell with 40mm Front Runner load bars keeps the tent low to the top of my vehicle. It's about as low center of gravity as you'll get with a camper shell + RTT combo. I sold the Leer 180 because it lofted the tent too high - well over 7' off the ground. Aerodynamics went to hell and my CoG was terrible with the RTT or kayak on the roof. Not to mention my wife and I had a hell of a time deploying and redeploying the tent, and we're both just under 6' tall. The only real benefit to a raised roof shell is the added interior room. I think the cab height is much more "sporty" and aesthetically pleasing. I do miss the added interior room at times, but it's not enough to make me regret a cab height shell.

I will say if you order a new shell, get at least one windoor - preferably two. They are worth every penny.

Thanks. It'll be two for sure..... the only decision is vented or not.

I went vented. My 70 pound pit mix rides in the back and the vents are a must. I can drop down the front window and open the vents to give him more than enough fresh air.

Check with ARE and Leer, but when I last checked, Snugtop was the only vendor offering vented windoors in the short bed configuration. This may have changed by now, not sure.

Snugtop HiLiner. 500lb roof load capacity.

Still cut my head open half the time I climb into the back.

Leer 180 I picked up off Craigslist. I just ordered proline roof rails. I'm planning on mount our tent on it, hopefully it doesn't mess with us too bad.. We have a long trip planned and we really don't want to pull our trailer through all the tight trails we have planned.

Reviving this thead - anyone have any photos with a cap and a RTT setup? I'm getting a RTT however I'm not sure if I want to put it above the cab or the bed's Leer 180...

Don't mind the old photo of the truck it was the only good shot I have with the cap on it.

go with the raised shell no doubt! I had a cab height and would camp in the back on a platform, and the cab height left no room to sit up. When i found my raised shell it made a whole world of difference, and even if you're not planning on camping in it i was never able to put my bike in the back without laying it sideways before the raised shell either

Yeah that's the only problem you might want to pack a little step ladder it's kind of up there I got to stand on my rock sliders to reach it
