I got my old SCII updated to the newest rev. (less than one week turnaround!) and put it back in tonight.

Was able to program an X code from the Linear Logic site for the 2010+ CANSF read out, and popped up a trans fluid temp right away. :bananadance:

So now my question is exactly where is the sensor located, as in what reading am I really seeing?

Is it a pan temp? Is it the line out to radiator cooler temp? Line in from radiator temp?

Since the temp varies depending on where you are in the cycle of fluid, and you can't really see 'average', I'm just wondering what Toyota thought was important to measure.

@gearcruncher or anyone else, any input on this? Also, I have one of your old threads saved on life degradation based on temperatures. How much would that change using a synthetic fluid?

Most manufacturers are just putting them in the valve body, just hanging there in the pan

According to the computer control documentation , the trans temp is controlled by the coolant temp sensor .
If using synthetic transmission fluid , I believe the life of the fluid also depends on how much heat has effected the fluid .

Ok, I'm not sure what you mean by 'controlled'. That makes me think thermostat like control. I've driven briefly, and the coolant gets to 190ish and the trans comes up to about 145. Just futzing around the local area. So it is definately two different measurements.

Can you 'splain a bit more what you meant? Do any of your documents show the sensor location (which is what I'm curious about anyway)

For sure. I've seen the degredation chart you've posted about time / temp shortening fluid life, which makes sense. My question is, is there a chart like that for synthetic fluid? Since syn is more heat friendly, you'd think you'd see either higher temps OR longer times at a given temp to let it parallel the dino degradation rate.

    Thanks!
