Alright I'm pretty desperate for a no bull shit opinion. I'm lifting my 2012 4x4 3"in the front and 2" in the rear, do I need new upper control arms? And or a diff drop?

How are you obtaining 3" of lift in the front?

To get a proper alignment, yes you do need them. You can be a cheap ass and deal with the shitty alignment though. I wouldn't want to, but it's your truck and money.

Diff drops are a touchy subject. One guy crashed his race truck into a rock during a race with his oddly modified skid plate and broke a bunch of shit so now everybody says they're the devils work.

Both are not needed... both are mixed opinions. Both options people didn't add those options and still had their lift and alignment perfect. I know a lot of people that don't use a diff drop. Also there's some guys on here that didn't get new ucas with a ome or bilsteins lift And it ran fine

I suppose different people have different ideas of what a "perfect alignment" is. There is no way to get a "perfect" alignment with a 3" lift and stock uppers.

Some people just deal with high camber/low caster and call it good.

There's members on here that got a "perfect" alignment on a lift with stock ucas. There should be one chiming in soon

On a 3" lift and stock uppers, no. Unless you're talking about maximum "in spec" camber and minimum "in spec" caster which hardly qualifies as "perfect" to most people.

Like I said, different people have different ideas of what a "perfect" alignment is.

Would a 2.5" lift have any less of an impact?

Of course. The less you lift, the less likely you are to "need" upper control arms.

OP be patient, save up the money and get the lift you want done right the first time. You will need UCA's for a 3" lift. No getting around it. 2.5" is the hit or miss height.

I figured... Being patient isn't necessarily my forte but I reluctantly agree with you
