I blame this part of my personality on my cheap old man! I am always looking for a good deal on truck stuff. I like to think that I am smarter than my dad but, this time, no so much! I found a set of 4 255/85 Cooper ST's on CL with 19,000 miles on them for 200$. I am needing some new tires so I went to see them and bought them, and a set of stock steelies. I figured why the hell not have 2 sets of wheels. (Not that I have the room to store them) The next day I stoped off at Harbor Freight and bought a tire iron, then was-mart for some airsoft BBs and mounted and balanced my own set of wheels. Great Idea Right??!! Nope! 2 of the tires were cupped so bad that it was hard to steer. The other 2 are straight and true. Not to mention, that the 255/85 ST's are NOT the same size as the 255/85 ST MAXX. (See Pictures) I read that the stock steelies are the same as the aluminum rims, and a tire size is a specific size for a reason. Does anyone have a clue what these are so different? The more important question is: Who needs tires?!!!

Put the cupped ones on the rear. Take what ever end of the tread is lifted higher and make that the forward facing.

Pray. They may square up if you've made your peace with Jesus.

I inspected them, however I looked at 2 of them and called it good. It was dark, and in his garage. One good thing is that I learn lessons well! I also learned out to mount and balance tires myself, that saved 100$.

I did think about just running the bad ones in the back, but they are so god damn skinny! How that hell can that be the same size tire?!!

I had those tires. They did pretty well.

    IMG_5294.jpg

They stuff like no other true 33" can.

    IMG_5296.jpg

I would do what everyone else said and throw them on the back. If you don't like them, it shouldn't be a problem selling them for $200. I paid about $180 each for mine.

the ST is a skinny tread lightweight casing, works well on a 7inch wide rim, but not on an 8inch rim. when new the 255 ST is taller than the 255 ST/Maxx. ST/Maxx has modern casing that is superior to the ST casing. ST/Maxx is less tall, fatter, and has a wider tread, and is heavier than the ST. I currently have a set of 255 ST on the truck, but also have the 285 ST/Maxx in the garage, and I much prefer the ST/Maxx. I happen to like the skinny ST on a 7inch steel rim and it works well, but the 285 ST/Maxx has volume making a better ride on road or gravel.
the TOYO MT 255 is the heaviest and tallest of 255 size tires.

I would have never thought that there would have been such a diffrence in the same size tire. Do you know if the 2nd gen aluminum rims are the same dimentions of the steelies?

I wonder how the size differs from the KM2s and the MAXX.
