I do not know where you guys live but here in Idaho we do not have much of a problem since most likely a thief will be harshly dealt with. Great ideas on here however I need to get my tail gate off easily, doesn't the gate handle lock solve this problem?

I've never heard of anything up here in Northwest but like everywhere else we've got some shady places.

I've pick up the Masterpro hose clamp with removable key from O'Reilly Auto parts for $3 and change.
But turn out the size of the gate connection turns out to be about 1-1/2" in diameter. Went back and got the next size up, 1-1/4" to 2-1/4". So that's too big. Fortunately I was able image.jpg score the excess piece and break it off. But I noticed when I tried to put it on the passenger side of the gate, the top of the connection slants towards the gate, so when I tighten the clamp it slips against the side of the bed. Did anyone else has this problem with their 3rd gen Tacoma? Also are you putting hose clamps on both side?

No, you only need to secure the one side. You can't do anything with the left side until you remove right side. There is also a POP&LOCK remote lock for your tailgate which I love, works with the rest of your doors or the drivers door depending where you wire it. When my doors are locked so is my tailgate, don't have to think about it. Love it.

Thanks. I been looking at low cost options, but don't see any thing viable. The pop and lock seems to be the best option out there.

Probably, but not exactly certain, how your (1st gen) tailgate is attached? Also, not exactly sure what you are asking about? There are several different modifications (all concerning securing the tailgate) discussed here. Either way, you should be able to tell from all the pics in this thread, or maybe restate you question...I'm sure someone can help you out :).

Trying to do the washer mod. What is the correct size washer/spacer, inside and outside diameter? How do I install the washer/spacer so that the cable doesn't bind. Pictures or videos would help out greatly if you have any?

Go back here and start reading. This should clear up matters a bit.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tailgate-theft-how-to-prevent-it.27829/page-50#post-11758928

But, as for that small washer, it should have a 15/32" OD (outside diameter), with a 5/16" hole in the center (inside diameter). It should be approximately 3/32" thick, but never less than the thickness of the larger washer used. These measurements will mirror the 40 torx cable bolt, which has a shoulder that is 15/32" OD, and threads which that are 15/16" OD. This is probably not something you'll find on the shelf some where, but maybe(?) I believe it may have to be special made, if it is to be an exact fit.

Understand, that whatever the thickness of your "large" washer, the small washer is there to compensate for that, and must be just slightly greater (thicker), but the same outside diameter as the shoulder, on the 40 torx cable bolt....
