the directions say to notch the upper bucket. just notch it so you have at least 3/4" clearance.

it doesnt do anything to the shock as you arnt touching the shock. you are just making a small notch on the shock mount (not frame)
in their own directions it says to do it. myself, i removed the whole shock mount and make a taller one to run longer shocks lol

also, if you dont notch the shock mount, you will void the shock warranty :D

x2 on everything Paranoid is saying. The new instructions mention to take a little steel off the bucket to aid in the clearance of the hose. There's absolutely no reason to worry though. This won't affect anything negatively whatsoever. There's a whole thread about this how Icon didn't do warranty work on someones shock because they didn't notch it and it rubbed on the hose causing it to leak.

Another recommendation of mine is to check all the hose fittings and make sure they're snug before installing. A few people in the past have had them really loose and leaked oil.

I just used an angle grinder with a flap disc when I was installing these on my friends truck. Took about thirty seconds per side.

Glad to see you guys got this nailed already. A lot of guys are getting screwed by this silent literature about notching their shock mounts. Hopefully this will prevent your shocks from leaking prematurely.

If the literature was not distributed effectively...then I can see it.

Reviving an old thread, as I'm about to install some 2.0 rear resi and 2.5 front.

Yes, instructions say to notch the bucket. Fun

its not hard defiantly do it as over time you will see it settle and can easily damage the connection causing pressure loss in shock. also if you dont do it there is no warranty as it will be considered installed incorrectly by ICON.

make sure u prime and paint it after done, so dont introduce rust into bracket.

What did you guys use to cut/notch the bucket?

I'm going to sand it smooth and paint it, too.
