I will try some if not all of what you are saying. I appreciate it! I have gotten by not eating a lot before a run and believed it was ok not to have a meal before running distances up to and including 10 miles. I was sipping water during the race. I brought bottle with me.

Most runners will tell you just to try different foods and drinks before and during a race. Being type 2 is a different situation, but I would guess you need to be more aware of your sugar intake/levels. If you are new to running, you may be doing too much, too soon. I find I run better after a decent sized meal/snack about 1 to 1.5 hours before a longer run.

Thanks again! Apparently what worked in the past isn't working anymore. There is also a lack of training I guess for this one. I am gonna have to hit it harder and be extra vigilant with the diet from here on out.

Ha didn't know this page was here. Finished my first marathon in November at lasvegas. They closed the strip and you run along that and the casino and what not. 3hrs and 38 minutes to finish. Done several halfs locally. This year I signed up for a half ironman and the full ironman in my home town of coeur d'alene idaho. The full is in august and it starts at 5:45am with a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike then a 26.2 mile run. My training now is crazy, 6 days a week it's 2 hrs before work and 2 hours after with Sunday's off. Swimming this morning!

Just went on a trip to Kauai. It took a little adjustment from running in snow and cold weather to the heat and humidity. Still nice to run along the beach and gets some flat miles in. Planning on a 5 mile race in early July. Hoping to break 40 minutes.

Run the 5 mile run in 36:20. Not bad for a 195 pound 40 year old. I won my age division, but of course the timing chip in my bib did not work so there is no record of my run. I will try again next month for the Alaska 10k Classic.

For those of you looking for a good cross training option, I started using a Concept 2 rowing machine a few months ago. I think it has really helped with condition and working alternative muscles. Plus it will be good to have during the winter when it can be challenging to run in cold weather.

Yes it's good to see this thread didn't die. I have been injured for nine months. I'm starting over. Shit it's hard.

Ran a 5k and 10k double race this past weekend. The 5k was a warm up so I jogged it in 25+, but did the 10k in 46:40ish. I was hoping to do better, but started having stomach issues around mile three. Did better than my 48 minute mark the year before.

This is not a very active thread. I am not an app person; never had a need for a running app.

I'm new here but running is my jam so one of the first forums I searched was this. I graduated in May, but I was a college cross country and track athlete (NAIA school don't be too impressed) and raced the 'ol 800m on the oval. Was a 1:55 guy which got me on the 4x8 relay for the national meet twice.

Looking forward to getting into some longer, more endurane type running now that I'm done on the track (which seems to be the more popular thing round here).

    Welcome

I'm headed up to pace a friend in the Castle Peak 100k. I'm doing the last 19 miles with him. This is an awesome race with crazy amounts of climbing and altitude:eek::thumbsup:

Wow that sounds like a blast! I had a 10 week hiatus from running because I was in Honduras doing service/missions work and this is just my second week back. Definitely outta shape. Can't wait to crank the mileage back up though. Wish I could fast forward a couple months and be able to crank out 19.

    What NAIA school?
I raced NAIA, but now my alma mater is now a D3 school and a lot has changed :(
1:55 is nothing to shrug about, the 800 is hard!

I just raced the first time this year a little 5k, went out to fast and wound up with 18:45, not bad for running 1-2 times a week for 4-10 miles.

Yeah man I was pretty proud of 1:55 actually. I was a 2:08 high schooler haha

I ran for Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois. We were pretty competitive in the NAIA realm. Which school were you at?

We were were not as competitive at the national level, but made a few trips there. I ran the marathon my senior year and was the alternate on our 4x800 at a 2:03.

Wow! The marathon is always a blast to go watch. The finish line always looks like a war zone haha. That's awesome man!
