I've used Amsoil in both my previous diesel pickups (Ford Navistar [80K miles], Dodge Cummins [150K miles]) with Blackstone Labs oil analysis at every 10K mile oil change (filter changed every 5K). Never any issues reported. The guy I sold the Cummins to took the head off to check the engine condition, said it was so clean he could still see the original manufacturing hone marks in the cylinders. Can't verify that claim myself, but he certainly had no reason to lie to me about it...

I'm pretty sold on Amsoil, and plan to use it throughout my Tacoma.

I assume one of those is probably ATF, what's the other? A heavier weight gear oil for the front end? I know a lot of people are putting heavier weight in the front end, I just went with the 75w90 for the front and back.

Yeah I had already done both diffs with the 75 90 severe gear. This is 5w 20 for the wife's car, and 75 90 severe gear for the diff and trans in a 92 Toyota pickup my dad bought that we're cleaning up, also 10w 30 for the 22re in it.

You can order a 10 pack off eBay of oem filters with the little plug gaskets for like <$40 shipped. Saves a trip to the dealer each time.

Yeah, I buy enough filters for 1-2 years at a time and they throw the drain gaskets for free and I get to pick their brain in issues for free lolo!

I was never sold on Amsoil. The first time I heard of it, I was at a race shop picking up some lowering springs. Asked about it, dude goes "It's the BEST KEPT SECRET IN AUTOMOTIVE. The best oil you can get."

I promptly said "What kind of f***ed up company would want to be a secret?" And he had no reply. For the price, I'd rather run something else. To each their own though.

A long time ago I actually passed on a Tacoma X-Runner with 60k on it. The guy was selling it for 15k, and said he only used Amsoil so he had only changed the oil every 15k. 4 oil changes in 60k didn't sit well with me, bought the Goat instead the following week. No ragrets ya knaw what I'm sayin'

I still do 5k even with synthetic.

/end off topic rant about Amsoil

Thats why I like to use the dealer.. records are nice.
I do bring in Royal Purple for them to poor in though.
Wonder what would be a good way to keep records of services when done at home. Receipts with photos of me under the truck..? lol

I keep a folder of all receipts with date and mileage written on them. More valuable to me knowing it is done 100% correctly with receipts than it being on the carfax....I like the idea of pics thpugh. A Polaroid of me pissed off with oil splattered stapled to an auto zone receipt haha.

Unless I get to physically watch them pour it in, I wouldn't trust my dealer (or really any) to do this. There's a good amount of people who would pour in the regular stuff and take the Mobil 1 or Royal Purple home with them.

I have always kept a log book on my vehicles and l even started snapping pics during the change. On my 2nd Gens l also used to write the mileage on my filter with a paint pen too.
