so far I'm getting 20 in town. I can get higher but can't go a full tank without at least 3-4 trips in a heavy rush hour or 1-2 accidents killing the MPG... on my recent trip to Las Crucis NM and back, I had one tank averaged >24 all the way up to when I picked up our new pup. then it took a good hit due to the stop and go of letting the pup out every 30 min to piss or poop. next tank was climbing back into Colorado and a day of commuting and got 23. I think I'm just over 3,000 miles and almost a month of owning it. Very pleased coming from my 99. My 99's average was 16, but if you look at my fuely, it was climbing quite a bit. I had averaged right around 19-20 with it in town... but oddly enough it wouldn't get any better on the interstate... speeds were too fast. 55-60 was it's comfort range... for the 17' it seems to be 65-70.. if the speed limit is 75+, I do 70... nothing more, and sit in the right lane. big difference in MPG's I've noticed. it I still have spirited bursts of excessive throttle from time to time, but mostly I stick to the speed limit and the right lane. I'm all stock and will be getting a lift, bigger tires, and a rack for my RTT by Aug, for a trip to Oregon... I'm hoping to have gears by then too... but we'll see.

    This is a 2wd 2017 Tacoma Limited.

This was from Chouteau, Oklahoma (Amish Cheese Store, amazing) to somewhere around mile marker 112 on I44 in Missouri. Went at or under the speed limit the whole way (might have accidentally went 2 over), but some of that was 75 mph on the Will Rogers Turnpike. I drove by foot, letting it slow down going up hills, speeding back up to the limit on the down hill. Average speed was 61 IIRC, but there are some stop lights and a toll booth along the way. This was without a/c.

    11rdjcw_8a55ea6590759c9db3dda1148a7d9391d88149b3.gif

The next tank was 24.2 mpg, and was through southern Missouri into St. Louis city, all Interstate until the last miles. With the a/c on running the cruise control at the speed limit.

Average 15MPG in town, city driving, hard on the pedal - Best highway 18MPG even with cruise control around 68MPH. Was better when I bought it, consistently dropped and seems to be leveling off at these fabulous numbers. What is great though is the massive low end torque I get in exchange for crappy mileage :-\ My 2002 4Runner was getting better than this.

I get better overall average with mixed driving, at lower speeds. These trucks aren't very aerodynamic.

Averaging 19.3 MPG after 7201 miles which is a little lower than it actually since I don't have my speedometer recalibrated for the larger than stock tires (likely 3% off - going 62mph when it's reading 60mph)

I only started using this app recently but this reflects my entire time with the truck. Honestly it got better mileage when brand new and has gradually declined to this.

Usually get between 23-25 hwy and 17-19 city (small town lots of start/stop driving) and probably a 20-21 average. Beats the hell of the mpg I use to get with my 12' Tundra and it only had the 4.6L V8 (basically was under-powered for that size truck).

I'm averaging 20.5 with mixed in town driving and 10 miles to work on a hilly highway.

Stock 2016 TRD 4x4 Sport Access Cab MT with a shortened air dam. MPG reset every time I fill the tank.
Probably 35%town/65%highway on average. I can easily get 17-20mpg driving in town if I keep the rpm low.

I've averaged 22.4 over 15K mi. About 95% secondary and highways. Very little stop-n-go city driving. It's very happy from 40-65 mph and using 4WD doesn't change the tank mpg more than 1-2 mpg. The max speed I do is 65 even if the posted limit is 80 (I-70 in UT). Accelerate slowly and glide to stops. The best tank was 27 going from Silverthorne on I-70 over Vail Pass and all the way downhill to Grand Junction. No problems running 85 octane above 4,000 ft elevation, 87 when lower, which is pretty rare. Stock AT AC OR except for RCI aluminum skid and ARE MX cap. I'm happy.

Can you elaborate on why you change octane levels at higher elevations?

My understanding is higher octane retards the firing in the pistons. Given the lower O2 levels at higher elevations the firing is already retarded so 85 works OK. I hear that 85 at lower elevations results in pinging. Not so once you go above 5,000 ft or so. I'm sure someone will chime in with a more-coherent explanation. 87 was the lowest octane I encountered when I lived in New York State. Here in CO and UT 85 octane is pretty common.

    This mpg has always sucked.

That 4th segment from 23APR was a 1,400mile road trip on all highway and hardly got 15mpg.

You have it backward. Higher octane can allow for more ignition "advance", and more power. If you use lower octane and the system detects knocking it will then "retard" the timing to try to eliminate the knock.

At altitude, the cylinder pressure is lower already because of lower atmospheric pressure and it won't knock even with 85 octane.

Only been watching mpg for the past few weeks but this was my best trip mixed city/hwy daily commute. Basically stock '17 TRDOR DCSB. Considering lift and wheel/tire upgrade but don't want to lose this mpg!

On a recent 350 mile trip, including some in town driving, I averaged 23.7 miles to the gallon. 75 mph 90% of the trip. Divided number of gallons to top off tank into total miles traveled. MPG seems to keep improving! My 16 Taco takes a licking and keeps on trucking!
