Lift or no?

So i cant get bigger tires for a while. But i have the money to get the ready lift. Should i just wait to lift it till i can get the tires? would it look stupid lifting it on stock?

 

Worse come to worse, buy the lift and have it in the garage if you get nervous about looks.

 

You can buy the kit now, keep checking Craig's List, eBay, or TW for some deals on tires.

Where are you going to buy the kit from?

 

There are advantages to replacing the suspension beyond just cosmetic. Better payload capacity, ride quality, handling, etc. If you're upgrading the suspension you might find your satisfied with your truck as is and there's no rush to for tires and other stuff.

 

Agreed, buy the lift and garage it til your ready. Thats just my opinion. I'm one of those that will sit on parts til I'm completly ready to do the install for everything! Also, how much are you paying? I was able to get my kit for $280 a lot cheaper than the manufactor I believe.

 

not sure where in going to buy it. i have $350 to spend so im going to look around for a pretty cheap one. im going to get the 3in ready lift.

 

Def do some shopping around. I got the same kit for $280, which was $70 cheaper than i thought I would be paying.

 

In that price range just go ahead and ignore my post...

 

If you've got a 5-lug, you could get the fat bob's kit, which includes rear shocks, for under 300

sick! is it pretty reliable? how much of a lift is it?

 

i disagree with the ppl saying buy it and put it in the garage until you are ready to do the full intstall...i say wait until you can afford everything and do it at once...you dont want to buy a lift now then decide you want a different lift when you can afford the tires...

I like it.... As far as lift, I'm not sure exactly how much, but it def gave my truck a more aggressive stance for sure! Haven't had any issues other than loosing gas mileage cause of the bigger tires now

 

Don't know how reliable it is. It's a top plate spacer kit, so you have to be aware of what kind of reputation that type of lift has. I'd read the What you need to know about lifting your truck thread to get an idea. By the way, there aren't as many lift options for the 2nd gen 5 lugs as there are for the 6 lugs.
Basically these are the options that I know of for the 2nd gen 5 lugs:

• Readylift 2.75" top plate spacer, AAL rear kit
• Fat Bob's 2.75" top plate spacer, AAL rear kit
• Total Chaos UCA kit (requires specific SAW or ICON coilovers)
• Total Chaos Long Travel Kit(requires big $$)
• Fab something up

Fat Bob's used to make a kit that was the same type of spacer (and the contents of the kit) as the readylift. For some reason they stopped selling them and redesigned the kit to be the aluminum puck, include rear shocks, and have two options for the rear AAL. I don't know why they did this, only repeating information I was given.

The TC UCA kit looks really sweet and there was a guy who had it before he sold his truck. He said the ride was excellent. The downside is it's 6-700 for the UCA's, another 6-700 for the coilovers, and it doesn't include the rear lift. However, if you're going to wheel your truck hard and want it to ride like a caddy, it or the LT are probably the way to go.

 

x2. I don't plan on making my truck a long travel, but in the future I will be purchasing the TC control arms. I may also put some Deaver Springs in the rear.

 

I just finished installing the readylift on my 09 reg cab 5-lug, I put in some procomp 322515 rear shocks and put some Kumho KL78 tires 235/75-15. I started with a nice, quiet, zippy (auto), smooth riding truck and turned it into a loud (tire noise), slow, kidney-buster. But it sure does look better.

 

ha ha, agreed! i have almost the exact setup except for wheels/tires. the noise level did go up a tad! I have the same tires on my set up only 245/75/16. I really didn't notice the truck any slower though, but I never really stomped on it much.... but its still an excuse for the supercharger, once someone else tries it first!
