oil pan drain plug leak

have a leak around oil pan drain plug is there a copper washer replacement part number for 2013 taco or a better solution anyone.

Go to any FLAPS and look at the Dorman blister packed stuff...

 

Dorman part numbers 65394 or 095-156

They are the same part - just different packaging

You may also see these packaged with these same part numbers with a product name of Oil Tite - another one of Dormans products.

 

When I got Toyota oil filters from the dealer, he poped a new drain plug washer in each box, and the filters were only $4 and change each.

 

Some do this; others don't. Many still charge upwards of $1.35 for the

This is the route I went. The one time I got the parts from the dealer it was something like $9 for the filter and $2 for a paper gasket that they had to "special order".

just wanted to get someone else's opinion i put 5.5 quarts of mobile 1 synthetic oil in my truck but use a fram ultra synthetic oil filter and of course the filter is short in comparison with the toyota filter that's a taller filter. can the filter handle the 5.5 quarts or should i do something different and if not will it harm my engine......... thanks

Seriously, I buy OEM filters from the dealer and get the crush washers for free.

 

I use a Fumoto valve, best thing I've done for DIY oil changes

 

I would use OEM filters while your vehicle is still under the Toyota powertrain warranty. If the Fram filter ruins your engine, do you think Toyota will still warrant the engine?

 

OEM filter is under 5 bucks from the dealer here, gasket is a dollar and change. I spent the $26 for the convenience of the fumoto valve though.

Looking for advice/opinions.

I’ve always done all of my service myself for as long as I’ve owned the truck which has been approximately 60k miles and have never had this issue. I switched over to the oem filters from Napa gold two changes ago after much reading on this forum. This is the first time I’ve used an oem gasket however. After using my last Napa gasket “soft clear plastic” on my last change I decided to head to the dealer and pick up some oem gaskets and another box of filters.

So just like any other time after preforming the change I start it up and let it run for a couple minutes. Come back 10/15 minutes later and confirm the oil level and check for leaks. All good. Out of habit I always check the following day or two after changing any fluids to confirm nothing is leaking after normal use. Well the plug is leaking. I thought WTH did the plug come loose? Nope still snug. Leaking from above? Nope throughly spent a good 30 minutes inspecting everything. It’s definitely the plug.

The mating surface of the pan is in perfect condition. The plug itself is in perfect condition. Threads are sound. Only thing that is different is the gasket. The gaskets I got from the dealer look nothing like the gaskets pictured on the top of this thread. The ones I received were rock hard and solid black not multicolored/layered. They look like they are made from paper/cardboard but are brittle as hell. Are the oem gaskets supposed to be like this?

Im starting to think the new gaskets are the culprit? What do you guys think? Never had this happen in the 12 changes using a aftermarket gasket. Switch to “oem” and it leaks right off the bat.

 

You are thinking about the cheap orange can fram filters. The ultra synthetic filters are actually good. Still I agree with going OEM as well if your truck still has warranty.

 

I think they gave you a fiber gasket. Had the same issue with my nieces Honda element where after changing the oil and using those types of gasket it will leak after wards. I just use aluminum crush washers that you can get from Amazon and never had a problem afterwards.
