Has anyone had success powering speakers with the bed outlet?

We want to power some decent sized speakers and sub so I'm assuming this set up won't work but wanted to see if anyone knew something more.

I have 400 watt inverter that is fused, but will that still be too much?? I'm worried about blowing a fuse in my truck or just completely draining the battery way too fast.

Am I better off just renting a generator?

Well you will not need an inverter. You will need to just run some speaker wire to the bed and install some speakers. You can run them through a switch so that they are only on when you need them.

You will need an amplifier for the sub, which i would suggest you mount inside the cab.

If you want to have sound without having the truck running then i would suggest getting a bluetooth speaker, something like a ion tailgater, or like you said... get a generator and a radio...

Hmm thank you that's good advice. We're trying to power 2 towers and a sub I'm thinking I may just need to use a generator.

If you are trying to power a home theater then you will be better off with the generator.

I mean you can always hook it up and try it out also!

I run one of of these frequently it works fantastic (this is a JBL, can't remember what brand i have). I could easily run the pair, it's just more than i need. I run them with truck off for 3-4 hours & have never had a a dead battery at the end.

Ok so the sub would be 100 watts and the amp for the 2 towers ~200

Do you think it would be fine as long as I'm running the truck? My biggest concern isn't so much draining the battery (will be at a musical festival, getting a jump is no prob) but rather blowing a fuse/frying something else.

Or does the 400w inverter solve for that? I know next to nothing about EE

If you're drawing 300 watts from from the 400 watt inverter you'll be fine. Now, make sure the numbers you gave are from the data plate of each amp. The plate will say something like voltage--110, current--100 watts. Do not use the published music power rating.

I would be more worried about someone stealing the truck with the key in it.

So risk of causing any damage/blowing a fuse is pretty low?

I'm sure there is some type of fuse or circuit breaker for the inverter. You know somewhere, someone has plugged in a 1500 watt space heater. Just like the cigarette light socket has a fuse, Toyota had to provide some protection for people that do dumb things. I haven't tried overloading my inverter or looking for a fuse.

Two towers and a sub? What is the end goal? Is this just for tailgating or what? It sounds like you're wanting to use a receiver as your source and amplifier.
