    We're of a similar mind.

My opinion on the seats is that they are too damned hard. You sit on more than you sit in so the foam doesn't conform to your body. I was riding in a buddy's Highlander the other day. Those seats are like sitting on a cloud. The foam gives and conforms. I'm going to look into getting that foam into my seats. I'm betting it's not far off from the Taco's shape and size.

The seat mod is well known on the Tacoma Forums if you type in Seat Mod you will pull up all the threads, it involves putting washers under the rear seat brackets and longer number 8 bolts, it levels out the seat more and gets you out from sitting in the hole much better on the back.. I used Galvanized 1 inch pipe From Ace Hardware instead of washers. a few guys took there trucks to an Upholstery Shop and had more foam added for like 200 bucks instead and ben happy with the results also..

I just purchased 3 Ed gen TRD sport with JBL. Test drive was fine but the hour+ ride home was brutal
On the lower back. I removed the rear floor mount bolts, added a 1/2 inch stainless collar and ordered longer metric bolts from Fastanal that were 10.9 grade, which can withstand a front crash. Not only did this fix the problem but I can now get in and out without my knees rubbing on the steering wheel

I don't travel long distances in mine, but getting in and out when I have 2 car seats in the back has been an eye opener from my old Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Tacoma.

Well this thread popped up again so I'll post. I had a Frontier before this truck. Insanely uncomfortable seats. They sat up higher like a truck seat, but it put your leg and foot in an awkward position at the gas pedal. On long trips it felt like my butt bone was going to pierce through my cheeks.

I'm 6" and I like the Toyota seating. I liked it in my past Taco and 4 runner as well. It's a mid position between a truck and sports car IMO. Your legs are out in front of you more which eases pressure on the butt. My legs are bent less, and I can rest my right knee against the center console to make for a more comfortable and relaxed foot position on the pedal. he head rest puts my neck in a nice neutral position and not kicked back or forward uncomfortably either. Just another 2 cents.

I bought a 2016 TRD sport with JBL. I read several
Post where people added a one inch riser Under the rear seat mounting bolts. I was leary of this because of front crash and the bolts holding up. The poster appeared to use a grade 3 or 5 bolt. I went to Runnings and purchased a half inch stainless
Steal collar, took the factory seat mounting bolts to Fastnal and ordered 10.9 grade bolts, the half inch made a huge difference on the seating position and the truck
Still can handle a front crash

Gezz. This is such a funny topic because I feel the exact opposite. I feel as if I'm sitting way too high and too straight up. I'd love to lower the rear of the seat, not raise it up as some have done. Funny with differences of opinions and comfort.

Same as me. My legs are long and if anything I want more telescope in the wheel to get the seat further away from the dash but not have to stretch my arms as much.

The worst possible way I can imagine changing the seat would be to raise the back of the bottom. I'd raise the front if anything.

I'm about 6' 175lbs. I have to make a point to stop keeping only the big toe and ball of my foot on the gas and ball of foot on dead pedal or my legs fall asleep. Need to keep feet flat against the pedals and more weight on the heel but 20 years of sports cars is a lot of habit to break.

    Did you test drive?
I'm 6'4" and both Tacomas (2nd & 3rd gen) were fine for short and long road trips. Odd to see people complaining about something like this.
There are endless options for getting custom seats or pick up some weight and put it down, for reps, to get a stronger back.

I'm 6' and a fat boy. I don't seem to have your problem.

    I will ask,

Do you drive many miles daily?
Do you sit at work a lot? The problem may be at work and your drive only exacerbates the issue.

I'm researching and considering an idea of adding a 1/2" spacer to the back of my seats. I'm "average" height, and I'm hoping it will/help with seating position and hitting steering wheel with my knee upon entering.
I'm having a hard time finding the info about the specifics of that upgrade (yes, I've searched and came across this thread).
Could you guys tell me what size and length of bolt did you use? So it would give me an idea what to order. Thanks

I'm 6' with a long torso. I test drove an SR5 without the sunroof but ordered an OR with sunroof which lowers the headliner a bit. If I situp straight I touch the ceiling so I slouch a little which isn't ideal. Perhaps this is what the OP is struggling with. I too would like to see the seat *lowered*. Half an inch lower would make a big difference, IMO.

the bracketing doesn't easily allow for dropping the entire seat, which is why i went about it how i did, by dropping the seating position through carving out the foam. and for comfort, creating more bucket is much improved over the flat bottom as it comes from the factory.
