The way I look at it is this; an eye for an eye. They do that shit to everyone else, so why can't it be done to them? I'm sorry... I get the whole loving families, innocent people, etc, but what about the people they do that bullshit to?? Fuck that. Enough is enough.

I get that, but an eye for an eye. War is war... people live and people die. Innocent people become casualties. It's part of war. The entire world should be at war against those fucks.

I get the "humanitarian" thing, I really do. But enough is enough. What the fuck am I going to tell my kids when they get old enough that they ear and see this shit, and ask me about it? Fuck that. Something needs to be done.

True... and hopefully no one will get offended by what I'm about to say here. The US seems to "love" to get into wars, conflicts, etc. Make a fucking better effort to take care of the terrorist bullshit. I guess I can't really say anything since I'm not even a US citizen, and haven't been personally/directly affected by the bullshit these cowards do, luckily, but if and when I do, then I'll be even more pissed that nothing "bigger" is done about it.

I guess I'm just in a pissed off and ranting mood. It seems like this type of shit happens more regularly, or at least gets way more exposure than before because of the worldwide media, but enough is enough already. Hit them back, and hit them back HARDER then they hit us. An eye for eye. Simple as that. Gotta stand up to them and get the point across that the rest of the world isn't tolerating this type of shit anymore, and is going to do something about it on a more serious level.

I don't think your going to find a lot of people here that disagree with what your saying about that "group". I couldn't agree more but just remember this. It's not the country it's the people "group" living in the country. We can't just go to war with a country because a radical "group" lives there. As much as we might want to

 

One of the issues I see with that approach is these lone wolf type attacks. The problem is, it's not like attacking a country, it's a small percentage people spread out throughout the entire world. One person can half assed plan an attack and kill 20-30 people (or more) by using simple bombs or a truck. I agree something should be done however, on the other hand, I would be willing to bet, if you turn their home country into a parking lot, the lone wolf attacks would get much worse but would hopefully fizzle out over time. Like Rob said, a small percentage of people really suck and they are going to be extremely difficult to find and 'remedy'.

True. Didn't think about that. It's just frustrating as hell to see this type of shit keep happening. Makes it seem like nothing is being done about it, although I'm sure plenty is being done.

 

It's a difficult fight that we have spent trillions of dollars on over the past 20 years. Basically you have Americans, who primarilly join the armed forces out of nessecity fighting religious fanatics that live, eat, breathe and die for thier beliefs. They are 1000 times more passionate about thier fight than any American is. To us, it's a job, a paycheck. To them it's thier entire meaning to be alive. It's what they were put on this earth to do- kill thier infidels. How do you fight that kind of passion? While you may be dreaming of a nice house and upbringing for your kids, they are dreaming of jihad and only jihad.

Yeah... I think that's where the battle is lost. In the fact that they are super hardcore about that shit.

 

This crap has been going on forever and it's not going to end until there are stable/tolerant government put into place in certain parts of the world. But I don't remember the Mumbai event in 08 getting this much publicity.

As long as sect a, tries to govern minority sect b or this tribal group etc. there will be power struggles/oppression and the quality of life will be such that people sign up with shitty groups. The dynamic is pretty much the same as kids in the inner city joining gangs. There is no coincidence that a lot of the terrorist end up being well known for petty crime/drugs before they turned to suicide bombing. There are no easy answers to this problem.

 

The issue with 'an eye for an eye' is that you're not attacking the people causing the problems if you go on a random bombing campaign. It's not an established force that we're fighting, so it's like trying to cut smoke with a sword. They hide in the civilian populace, use them as a shield. And then if you kill any of those civilians while you're fighting the terrorists, then you're the monster. The fact is that the extremists hate us, and every time we inadvertently kill civilians it drums up more recruits for their 'cause'
Now, the cure for intolerance is education, but unfortunately in that part of the world the education they get is sparse, and they end up with a lot of their information coming through the very people that we're fighting against. We can't nuke our way into a solution with this kind of war, but unfortunately I'm not sure that we can educate our way out of it either. It'd take generations to gradually sway them away from a religion-based approach and into a more scientific viewpoint on the world, and you'd be actively fighting their current beliefs system the entire way

 

You guys definitely bring up really good and valid points. I guess I'm just frustrated and want to kill them and do to them what they do to us, without being rational about it.

 

Absolutely, that's a huge problem. They are growing at an alarming rate right now.

 

For sure. It'd be great if we could kill all of the terrorists in the world.

Taking tomorrow off to take my kiddos to their checkups. Should be interesting since I'll be flying solo, with a 3 and a 1 1/2 year old.

 

That's a very good point. This is sort of like the first time armies encountered guerrilla warfare. They weren't used to it, just being picked off one at a time from a distance vs. all out warfare. This is a difficult enemy to find and fight. They're cowards and attack unarmed civilians, they won't engage in 'war' with a military like the US because they wouldn't stand a chance but operating the way they do, they are, unfortunately, fairly sustainable.

 

I wouldn't mind having a giant microwave to put them into.

 

Absolutely correct, however they continue to get stronger and stronger. We can only do so much outside of our country, we need to do every thing possible to protect our own. Just look at what has happened in France and now England. These radicals don't care what it takes to take us out and take over, we need to continue to realize this and be willing to put us first. Do I want others harmed, no way. But do I want to see the radicals harm others, no way. A choice will need to be made.

 

What choice?
Bomb the countries they operate from? That just feeds their recruitment process.
Close the borders? Thousands of illegals with zero resources make it into the country every year; these terrorists have lots of resources at their disposal.
Increase government surveillance? The last thing the average American wants is more intrusion into their daily lives.

Unfortunately, there's no easy fix.
