IMO it all depends on if you have a strong relationship base to start. I dated my current wife for a year, and then we had to do long distance for a year and a half. I finally got moved up to be with her and couldn't be happier!

    Thanks man!
Yeah I will be living with another wheeling buddy. Having a garage would be cool.
Yeah we've been together 4.5 years, lived together a year, basically married just spend too much money on my truck to get a ring... hahaha

I'm thankful that my wife doesn't care about that too much! Her band is just some $50 band from Amazon. MY wedding ring is a white tungsten carbide also off amazon that cost $20. This thing is damn near indestructible.

Hot damn that must be a pricey ring. I *only* spent $2400 on my wifes engagement ring.

    Honest question....

How much are you supposed to spend on the ring?

3 months salary is the general rule but it really depends on your gf.

However much you can comfortably afford. I'm of the belief that you shouldn't finance it. If you can't afford an expensive ring, who gives a shit? You can get a nice ring for a few hundred bucks, and then get a nicer one later down the road if you guys decide that's what you want. You shouldn't be putting yourself in more debt right before you start a life together, and affording a ring shouldn't be the only thing holding anyone back from proposing.

my thoughts exactly eatsleeptacos! I would rather have memories of traveling overseas to foreign lands with my wife than a slightly larger stone on her finger right out of the gate.

Exactly! I had bought her a promise ring awhile back ( I know, I know) and it was less than $200, and honestly looked great. Even had a few small diamonds in it! I sure as shit can't tell a humongous difference between that and her engagement ring, so promise rings are a great option as an inexpensive engagement ring.

Even better! Half the time my wife doesn't even wear hers and just wears the band. She works in the medical field and doesn't want the ring to come off in a glove and not have her know.

The reason for the distance is school. She is going to study Pacemaker Tech and become a Pacemaker specialist. Basically she assists in surgeries by programming pacemakers and handing them to the surgeon to implant. Then she gives the final okay that everything is connected appropriately.

Also the job kind of has a sales side in that the specialists are also salespeople.
    Really weird and niche haha.
