Husky Storage Totes

I was in the market for a storage bin to put my gear in for camping/wheeling trips, I wanted something that could be strapped down in my bed like I do with my cooler.
My old boy scout troop has been using these for years, they are very durable and pretty water proof, there are no handles to strap it down with though.
Being frugal(cheep ass) I didnt want to pay $50, so I started looking at the container store and various sporting good stores, then one day at HD this catches my eye, I did some research and ended up buying the 30 gal version. I left it in the bed last night since it was gonna storm, put some napkins in it to see how water proof it is.
Not a drop got in. I should make clear that it is not as strong as the action packers which can double as a chair or stool but for about a third the price its perfect for me.
One thing I thought was cool is the lid has two latches on both sides so it can opened with one side as a hinge or the lid can be completely removed
Hopefully us georgia guys will figure our shit out for a trip in two weeks and I will update with any more thoughts on this good or bad.

Ive been using these same containers for over a year in my truck, one has recovery gear and the other has my ski stuff. I have had no issues with mine.plus they went on sale for like 18$ so i couldnt complain.

 

I use the green Plano totes from Academy. They have tie down points and are pretty cheap.

I second the Plano totes.

 

These look pretty good, how are thy on waterproof/resistant?

 

Ive had mine outside in wind and rain on the beach. The rain stopped and it became a sandstorm.

They stayed that way for 12hrs.

Nothing got inside.

 

They are probably about the same as the Hisky. Not water tight by any means but will keep rain out. The hinge/latches is better on the Husky, makes the box really versatile vs the Plano.

 

These Husky totes were what I was thinking of going with at first - I like 'em. But I really wanted something where I could strap down the bin by the handles, yet still be able to open the lid without having to undo the straps (so I can get to things quickly, if needed). So I opted for the DeWalt DS400 XL instead. More money and less room, but feels pretty damn sturdy and is IP65 water resistance rated as well. I also like the idea that they're interlockable with other cases and accessories in the lineup, if I need more down the road.
