Use a pressure washer with warm water to remove it, or use simple green. Then you will see if any seepage begins.

Hertz sent me off in a Santafe AWD Sport, Hyundai. Things pretty fun to drive! I dropped by my dealer to retrieve an item out of my truck last Saturday. There's (9) 3rd Gen's sitting in the storage lot under recall so far. 2 TRD Sport (ones mine), 4 4WD Limited, and 3 TRD Off Road...

Well technically at this point it's voluntary, however at some point the NHTSA would fully get involved. I'm sure there was lots of complaints, and it being a saftey issue they want to act fast before injuries and lawsuits happen. I know there was some complaints for this issue with the NHTSA before Toyota issued the recall so who knows how much weight that had in the recall. Regardless it would of came about anyway whether Toyota was proactive or not. I shouldn't of said recalls are necessarily mandatory in the sense that the government always forces them to be. I just meant mandatory being safety issue. That's the difference between a recall and a TSB.

After the big Toyota excelerator recall and the big takata recall manufacturers are starting to act a lot faster. Chrysler was also hit with some big fines for not recalling some jeeps or something that we're catching fire upon rear impacts if I remember correctly. There fix was adding a trailer hitch I believe. I guess for years they said there wasn't a problem. A few deaths and injury lawsuits and the gov cracked down on them and fined them

For people on the recall list who are approaching a scheduled toyotacare service--are you skipping the service or rolling the dice with potentially handing over your truck for 60, 90+ days?

About a month from the 10K and there doesn't seem to be any movement from Toyota on a remedy. What shitty position to be stuck in with my first truck.

Btw, dealer told me 2 weeks ago that since there is no remedy, they could perform the 10K and wait to perform the recall inspection until the remedy was available. Called to check again today, and that's changed. Now they have to do the recall inspection if I come for the 10K, and have to hold the vehicle until the remedy is ready if leaking is found. So basically they don't know jack shit, no surprises there!

Exactly...when I went to the dealer a couple of weeks ago, I sat in my truck and discussed the recall with the service advisor....what I feel is, because I never got out of my truck, he stated that "there is nothing preventing you from leaving and not having the 10K service done or the recall check done"..."If we find a leak, we will need to hold the truck". I politely backed up and left.

Now they are calling and emailing me to reschedule the service as soon as possible and I'm wondering if this had anything to do with it.

When I press them on the recall, they just state everything that has been regurgitated on this thread over and over....

FWIW, I have a slight weep, 16 TRD Sport, and closely monitoring it cause of towing the 4 wheeler and upcoming vacations...

I just had my 2017 OR in for the 10k on Saturday, it was seeping so I asked them to take a look. My vin was not part of the recall, but the service guy said yeah, if it's leaking, it's leaking. They called Toyota and they are replacing the seal and changing the fluid once the part gets in. Supposed to be this week sometime, but there was no discussion that they would take my truck. I still have it and am driving it everyday. Too much conflicting information on this whole thing, but I feel like they are taking care of my issue.

Yes, someone correct me if I am wrong, but you were serviced as part of warranty cause your VIN was not on the recall...A VIN that is on the recall is being held.

Im approaching 30 days soon without my truck, does the Lemon Law apply in my case? My dealer told me today that there is still no parts, no fix and no ETA for a remedy. I then asked my Dealer about the Lemon Law, he said I would need to call Corporate to see what they can do for you since dealers dont make that decision.

Reading this tread still puzzles me with what Toyota is doing or not doing. It seems if someone's Tacoma is not on the recall list but comes in with a leak, the dealer fixes the leak by tightening the bolts or replacing a gasket and tightening the bolts. Yet if your Tacoma is on the "recall list", Toyota does not have a fix and no remedy. WTF.

    Makes no sense to me.

Wow, so still no fix yet, eh? I Was one of the early suckers who took their truck in for an oil change, and the truck was held hostage at the dealer. I was in the middle of selling the truck, and was actually able to sell it to the dealer where the service dept had the truck. Funny stuff, I drove by the their lot and see my truck for sale (I'm pretty sure in CA you can't sell a vehicle with a pending recall) so whatever. When I punch in my VIN, it still shows recall has not yet been completed.

Got mine back today. Had to wait for a gasket to arrive so got a loaner for the duration. Gasket replaced and fluid changed. Hope it's good to go from here on out.
