I love my 85mm 1.8 and my 50mm 1.4 lenses. I use them all the time in portrait work. My "all around" lens when I am just walking about town is my 24-70 2.8 lens. It gives me a large variety of opportunities from shallow to deep depth of field, as well as the ability to shoot macro if desired. It is the most used non-prime lens that I have.

Depends on your budget. Haha. I have seen some crop-frame cameras that cost almost as much as a full frame. Really it depends on what you want your photography to be. If it is a hobby for just fun, crop-sensor camera's are fine. If you really plan to step into professional work, you will certainly find your need for a full frame. Canon 6D has come down in price since the 5DMk4 was released. You can pick one up for around $1300 if you shop around. My next camera will most likely be the 5DMk4, though I am really looking closely at the Sony A7. I like the mirrorless cameras. Just not sure I am ready to step that way yet. The 5DMk4 is such a PERFECT camera for weddings.

The A7 looks like a great camera given you can get some adapters for Canon lenses. I read recently about a software update that makes it almost useless for astro work now (something to do with over aggressive filtering). I love the compact size and overall picture quality of the Sony too.

I have an older Lumix mirrorless (GH3). Its shutter lag sucks and I have to admit, that's my biggest fear going mirrorless (though others, more competent than I have had wonderful results).

All my friends are working Hasselblad medium format. At $14K, it makes full frame look cheap :)

I get enough work with my current setup that I see no need to step into something THAT expensive. lol

lol. I figure my old Mamiya 645 AF would be plenty good enough for me (film is harder to find these days).

There's no way one can be all about glass and not be impressed by Fuji lenses. They make glass for medium format companies like hasleblad and compete head to head with Leica glass. They have literally the best glass in the main names second to Leica is about it.

Comparing a Fuji X-T2 and any of their glass to the Canon whatever it's called attempt at mirrorless is like crippled-old-me racing against Usain Bolt (and yes I'd be Canon in that analogy). There's just no contest ha.

Canon still makes incredible glass for their full frame camera line. I am impressed, and my publishers are happy. That is what counts.

Yup, I was speaking purely mirroless to mirrorless comparison.

Canikon still have a place in my heart. Just not in my bag anymore :) ha

Circular polarizer and several neutral density filters of differing densities. I also have a few square graduated ND filters.

Depends on what your intentions with them are?

I'd say a Polarizing filter is the most popular and UV serves no benifit IMO other than protecting the front element.

im just getting into the whole thing haha. my intentions are to use them if I can effectively figure out how. just wondering if any of the extra filters in the larger kit are useless.

EVERY camera bag should have at least 4 Neutral Density filters from 2x and up. You should also have a polarizing filter. UV filters have no purpose in modern digital cameras, as they all pretty much have built in UV filtration.

I keep a UV filter on most of my lenses as protection against dust, dirt. if the filter gets scratched, I can replace it a lot easier than a $$$$ lens.

The lens cap and lens hood are equally as effective.

The other problem UV filters (Amy filter really) can cause is reflections or flare. Best to leave them off and keep up on cleaning.
