hey guys, so browsing the local interwebs for parts I plan on getting months from now. I stumbled upon a guy selling a pair of 16" double bypass kings for a steal. My ideal setup for the rear end will be a couple king shocks supported with under the bed shock hoops and the all pro expo leaf pack, i know people usually run 12" or 14" shocks with the under the bed hoops but for the price these 16"s are hard to pass up.

    Questions:
    1) will they fit under the bed?
    2) how hard/expensive is it to change the eyelets size?

With the Chevy 63 swap you can run 16" shocks with the Ford shock towers on a second gen. I imagine would be same on 3rd gen

    1) no. there's a reason everyone runs 12's or 14's.
    2) easy. buy the new eyelet and some vice jaws to hold the shaft. use a big crescent wrench on the eyelet to break it loose. maybe some heat too.

im guessing the 63 is an axel and that's way more than I want to get into.

    1) wasn't sure people ran 12"s or 14"s due to travel and rubbing or crushing the shocks.
    2) figured...

Not an axle, a longer leaf pack.

:facepalm:leaf pack, imma look into that.lol
im also looking at a pair of 10" shocks. would those be too short? Would they not allow the leaf pack to utilize its full range of motion?

you will want at least a 12" shock if you are going custom. not sure how you would fit a 16" with out limiting uptravel some.

Limiting up travel and keeping my bed intact and usable. I have no problem with 12s. Just keeping an eye out for deals cuz this stuff can get expensive fast.

    You won't fit 16s...14s are a stretch.

    12s for sure

by your logic 20s are doable, you would just have no uptravel lol
do you have some examples of fitting a 14 easy or some 16s without cutting up the bed or losing all your uptravel?

Why do you want so much up travel and what makes you think you gonna lose it? Look up Rattletrap66 build

because when you hit a bump your axle has to move up. what's the point of doing all that work if you're going to be sitting on the bump stops because you're a cheap ass who bought cheap shocks instead of shocks that work for your application?

12s with a bamf relocation is dooable, but even then, to get a proper amount of up travel you are looking at a shackle flip with 1in lift shackles at a minimum on something like an all pro standard leaf pack. Dunno HOW you would fit a 14in shock without going into the bed.

For most applications you want about 60% up travel n 40% down. Less you plan on doing more slow speed crawling where its nice to have 60% down and 40% up.

Up travel is just as important if not more than down travel. Imo

@Rattletrap66 is setup for 9 down 5 up no bed cutting.

I'm also running 63s on the same setup he had the bamf kit with 12s and when we switched he was not limited by shock length

If I was to mount the the tower up as far as I could and lower the position of the lower mount I could fit 16s

I would have to measure franks again but bolt would be inline with bottom of axle tube

I have never seen a leaf spring that needed a 16" shock, ever. Lots of wasted effort to make them fit. I'd stick to 12" tops.

For comparison these are 16's and arn't even max'd out.
