Just wanted to share my experience installing the Toyota accessory skid plate, Toyota part No: PT212-35040. This is a pretty simple straight forward job that almost anybody with a pulse can install. But the one thing that makes the installation much easier is cleaning the weld nuts on the brackets that the skid plate attaches to with a 12 X 1.75 Tap. Apparently they either paint or powder coat the brackets and all the paint gets in the threads of the weld nuts making it almost impossible to tighten the bolts. I almost striped the first weld nut that I tried to tighten down!! Once I cleaned the weld nuts I was able to hand tighten the bolts all the way down by hand. So their you have it my advise on making this install go smoother for you. I think it looks very cool, probably would get crushed in real off roading use but just fine for the urban jungle!IMG_3090.jpgIMG_3091.jpg IMG_3092.jpgIMG_3093.jpg

FWIW. I installed this many years ago on mine, 2003 non TRD. Very happy with the look even after all these years.

What's great is that you can still buy Factory OEM parts and accessories direct from the dealership for a 14 year old vehicle. I have a 2001 Mustang and Ford has pretty much discontinued everything for that car, well maybe not everything, I can still buy Motorcraft oil filters. o_O

Skid plate looks awesome. Have one as well.

If you need to price parts, be sure to check with @gunny1005 (Parts Director) over at Camelback Toyota. Did business with him on a few part orders and couldn't be happier. Just a heads-up.

I see this post from a year ago. Mine just got crunched in a fender bender and would like to replace it, but the shop says Toyota doesn't make/supply them any more. I searched around and ran out of options. Any recommendations out there for either an OEM replacement or a possible upgrade without breaking the bank?

Thanks, Frissman. The Tundra skid plate does look the same, but it's a difference part number (PT212-35040). I am not sure how different it is, or if the holes for the bracket are in the same place. If someone out there can confirm or deny the difference (or likeness), that would be a solution.

so, the tundra/sequoia radiator plate is the same measurements, just seems to be different mounting brackets due to frame width:

You are an ace, Frizzman. Great information here. If it does not work/fit, it appears I could have a shot at drilling new holes for the Tacoma spacing. When it comes back from the shop, this will be the route I take - thanks to you. Really appreciate the extra effort here. I will take pics and post the results.

no problem. I know the bed extender works for both the Tundra and Tacoma. they are adjustable. there are a few parts that work on both (TBU) so makes sense they would re-use some others as well

Bluepepper, feel free to contact me about it. I bought it in 2011 but sold the truck before ever installing it .

This is relevant to my interests. I'll probably end up making a Tundra plate work as the Taco one is discontinued.
