Hey David, it might have been cut from the video, but did you try to just go in reverse before attempting the winch or snatch recovery? You might have, since someone mentioned it at about 4 minutes into the video.

Also, it looked like an almost perpendicular winch pull without the benefit of a snatch block to improve the winch recovery angle.
Snatch attempt looked almost perpendicular as well.

These acute angle recoveries tend to put a lot of strain on the recovery rigging and the vehicles.

    My two cents. :)

It could have been the camera angle that exaggerated the recovery angle. If so, my apologies.

Glad you got out of it with minimal damage.

    Looked like a great time!

I tried to back out, but i was digging in deeper. The video was cut up. The wincher, @Me. Projekt, was having spooling problems and ended up using a tow strap (which I would have gone to first).

I agree the angles were not ideal, and snatch blocks were not available. I was taking on water, and just wanted to get out.

Damages include wet carpet, and fish tank headlight mod.

Thanks for your input, every situation is a learning one. Now we have that knowledge going forward

Dang it man, I saw your headlight go in and was like, oh shit.

Any idea how deep it was?

I heard the people going 'fuck it just go!'

And was like oh shit, he might actually do it haha.

I'm glad you thought it through and didn't forge forward.

I've got to hand it to you, my adopted son, you take every experience and learn from it.

Can't wait to wheel with you again...

I still don't understand where you thought you were going to go if you actually made it through....the other side looks really steep and like there isn't much room to shoot up out

A few things I've learned about holes like that is that just about the only way to conquer them is to

    A. Be prepared to destroy your shit
    B. Hit them hard enough to splash a shit load of water out/create a ripple that will shove a bunch of water out
    C. Fucking, pin it.

Fortunately you didn't do any of that wuth that hole, because you'd have totaled your truckster lol
