I just installed them today. Pretty easy process. Sounds a lot better.

I just installed my set. It was indeed very easy and I am very happy with the sound, especially with podcasts and audio-books from my short testing.

I think next weekend I'm going to try installing those rockford fosgate 6 X 9s and 6.5" door speakers. That may be enough to hold me over while saving for an amp and sub.

Please update after the install! I've been debating on whether or not to install new speakers

I am super pleased with the sound now that the tweeters are in. The JBL GTOs paired with the tweeters are great. My speakers are 94 and 93 sensitivity and the tweeters are 94. They are super power efficient and I don't have to jack the volume. I used to run really expensive systems and this is easily enough for me.

Taco tune has a perfect video that shows you how. Be sure to use plastic panel tools as shown in the video.

Any chance these would fit in the doors of a 2nd gen with the entune stereo?

Installed mine today and the highs sound much brighter. Took me about 20 min to install so I would call that a win also.

So I installed some new door speakers today. I used some rockford fosgate 6 X 9s and 6.5s off of Amazon. I used about a foot of sound mat around and behind each speaker. The install went pretty well with no major issues. For the most part the various videos did a fine job of explaining the process.

As for the end result, it's OK. I mean it definitely doesn't sound worse than stock, but there isn't a clear night and day improvement like when I changed out the tweeters. I'm going to continue to fiddle with them and make improvements and see where they go. I've only done a few tests so far, so maybe we can get some tweeking done.

The real advantage is that I am much less nervous about pulling off trim and panels and such. I may use the current set up until 2018 then splurge for the OEM audio/********* package. I think I'm going to need an amp and sub to get what I'm looking for.

What sensitivity are those speakers? That makes all the difference in the world.

The sensitivity is 91db on both sets of speakers.

I will say that after much adjusting I think I have them sounding pretty damn good. The tweeters are great and the bass is pretty sharp now. I pulled the coaxial tweeters out of the 6 X 9s so they are a "poor mans" composite now.

I still plan on putting in an amp and sub in the next few months though. Pulling the truck apart isn't that hard or scary with all the youtube vids and forum support.

    Sensitivity
A sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power (watts) into volume (decibels). The higher the rating, the louder your speakers will play with a given amount of amplifier power. Sensitivity is often measured by driving a speaker with one watt and measuring the loudness in decibels at one meter.

The chart below illustrates that a few dB in sensitivity can make a big difference:

    Speaker Sensitivity rating Power needed
    to produce a given volume

    Speaker A 85 dB 100 watts
    Speaker B 88 dB 50 watts
    Speaker C 91 dB 25 watts
A speaker with a sensitivity rating that's 3 dB higher than another speaker's only needs half as much power to deliver the same amount of sound.

The reason why I went 94 do is it requires 12.5 watts to get mine to the same level.

Highly would recommend if you're not amplifying.

Truth be told I would amp if I could spare the storage space or justify the cost of all the extra hardware. It sounds really great as is. My Acura TSX had a full blown setup and I don't miss it or the lack of trunk space at all. 1200 watt amp and Alpine Type R sub was great.

We have some micro amps that are super small, very compact and have high low inputs. It's also affordable.

As for the sensitivity rating, I wouldn't use that as the primary factor in choosing a speaker but if your choosing between speakers that have similar ts parameters then the one with the highest efficiency should be picked.

Yeah I was just using it as a simple way for people to pick a speaker if they didn't want to amp. There are some nice amps that would fit the bill yes; but it is a slippery slope. One amp, one sub... an EQ, DSP...

OK, I'm curious. What is a micro amp and how hard is it to install compared to the plug and play systems from ********* or oemaudio? Keep in mind I'm nearly retarded when it comes to vehicle stuff.
