    Hey guys ,
On the way home today and speedometer is taking a crap . I looked down not even going 40 the needle was at 95mph ... the tach was right in 4th just under 2k .
Then started ticking down like a old clock going in reverse and finaly was stuck at 50mph sitting at a light .
I shut the truck off and restarted it went back to normal but was still sticking on deceleration .
The truck has 2200 miles ... Oh what a feeling ... LOL
I took a video , going to stop at the dealer tomorrow , they are pretty good so hope they just watch the video and order a gauge .
Any of you guys with 16/17 have speedometer issues ?

I need a new gauge and a new dealer ... I had 3 videos for the intermittent problem , its throwing no codes , there giving me bullshit run around how there there tech needs to reduplicate the speedometer and or wait for it to die ... A holes .
The 4 cyl 5 speed is the most reliable platform too bad other stuff is crap on this truck , not many of my toyota trucks have had problems with 2k on them .
I have owned 4runners for years and currently have a 2016 awesome vehicle and never had any problems .

The A hole service manager said that was great documentation but unless there tech can re duplicate the problem they can't do much for me .
Basiclly wait till it either dies or does it non stop then bring it back .
I have owned toyota USA for years and thier quality has fallen off in my opinion ... I have owned 3 4runners with the exception of my TRD pro being totaled in a accident never had a problem .
You would figure no problems especially with only 2k on the truck .
The 4 banger 5 speed power train is pretty indistructable on the 16/17 basiclly the same for over 20 years .
I have a buddy with a 2016 highlander powered taco and he hates the truck going from the 4.0 with a manual trans to the 3.5 auto crap .

Thats BS! Mine does the RPM thing at random times. But I noticed it going crazy when it is over 70+ degrees out. I am not driving my truck anymore due to dealer screwing me over and waiting on Toyota to figure their shit out to replace/buyback/fix mine. So even if they fix my broken 5spd transmission with 380 miles on it they will never fix the tachometer unless the tech can reproduce it. great! :annoyed:

try going to another dealer or get toyota corporate involved. thats bullshit. if you've got video documentation they need to be replacing it.

my 4runner combo meter went flaky at 19,000 miles in 2000, so theres that

there are millions and million of electronics boards shat out by toyota, 99.9999 is fine, a few have issues, as will any mass produced stuff

the only issue here is the dealer being dicks on replacing it...but an occasional bad part is ok, it happens

Love everything about my new truck, the manual transmission, 4x4, ect. But I feel like this should be a no questions asked fix.

When you go back and see the dealer ask them to check the gauges with the techstream. You can use the techstream to control the tach to help diagnose the issue. If they test it long enough they should be able to reproduce it. Don't go in with an attitude (not saying you did). Be polite and suggest they use the bidirectional capabilities of the techstream.

OP I hope you get it sorted out.

Last time I dealt with Toyota corporate they told me we don't listen to the customer only to our techs and sales. This is one big reason why I didn't buy another Toyota and bought my Ram 2500. The other is lack of a diesel engine solid axle and actual shock absorbers not struts.

sortof stock. 6112/5160, pro wheels and a tune.
Hey, mine did that too. I took it back and they had to replace the whole cluster. What sucked- once they parked it, it had to sit in that spot until they received the new cluster as they had to burn the mileage into it, so it all matched up.

but mine did the same thing. dealer fixed it no issue at all. just had a rental for a week and a half.

Mileage should be stored on the computer.
