I just completed this mod in my 2010 2.7 Manual, with a Pioneer 3800.

I used a heavy RCA (like the ones for a pre-amp connection) and soldered the connections... the video output on the h/u is as clear as the mirror video. No lines and no loss of resolution.

Additionally, if anyone else does this mod and can't find the red reverse-signal wire in the kick panel, my truck's wire was a thick light purple wire. It took me an hour to dig up a wiring schematic to confirm... maybe the red wire is for the autos and purple for manuals?

I also used a heave gauge cable, even gold plated. I actually used a video from a Heavy set of component cables. I ripped them apart since I couldn't find anything better and didn't want to go spend money on anything if I didn't have to. But o also tried some other wires and really couldn't tell a difference. Only change was when I turned off the rear view camera. So it seems to me that spitting the signal was the culprit.

Just did this on my 2013 Baja with a Pioneer HU, and it works like a champ. The biggest issue I had was locating the parking brake wire and I ended up T-tapping it at the switch under the dash because I couldn't find it anywhere else, so a little blood and left over skin is now up under the dash.
Thanks for the write up and the extra notes....

So what would be the procedure if you only want to have the video show up in the HU and stop showing in the mirror (not duplicate in both places)?

Someone did a thread on here about how to do this if I remember correctly. I would like mine to stay off in the mirror since it splits the signal and apparently weakens it causing the black line issue. It goes away if I turn the mirror image off. But the mirror display keeps turning itself back on.

Mine is a standard 2011. I had to disconnect the purple/white from my idatalink harness and do this and now it works.

Everything with this install worked and I have rear camera working on my head unit and rear view mirror. This wire was left over after I installed my Kenwood DNX893S using idatalink. I think its a power antenna wire, but I'm not sure. Anyone know for sure what it is?

Hey everyone! Getting ready to install Sony XAV-AX100 into my 2009 Taco. A couple of quick questions - When you tapped into the red reverse wire, did you use D pin connector like you did for the Video or use a vampire clip? Second, Is it necessary to tap into the parking brake wire since this unit does not have a DVD player - videos?

    Thanks

UPDATE: Worked like a charm! Thanks

I bought my 2011 Tacoma used and it has a shark fin antenna. I'll post what happens when I get the connector and install it. It's on it's way from China.

So my adapter finally came and I was able to connect it by removing the Sirius/XM plastic blue cover and the adapters grey plastic cover. I put heat shrink tubing over the connection. I have an XM antenna on my Tacoma 2011. I bought it used so I don't know if this was ordered or stock. When I hooked everything up my Sirius/XM worked great. I was glad to see I had a functional antenna and didn't have to remove the headliner to install another.

Excellent, I'm going to do this this weekend. Been wondering how to get my rear camera linked to my new stereo.

You guys and this forum are awesome! I can confirm that the method listed above works on a 2013 model. I was losing my mind trying to figure out how to split this to an aftermarket hu. Works great!
