3rd Gen---BTLM + LED Retrofit

UPDATE:
Well I got off my ass today and worked on some tails. Been so busy working on other light projects, these needed a little love.

First final production set assembled!

Biggest difference from my prototypes is I am using Red Leds Both brake board and raptor lights.
My original set.(now to a good home) used white leds. Those worked perfectly fine..in fact 99% of the vehicles out there use a white bulb, and then shines through a red lens. Creating a "yellow-red". But it was after a more vibrant color. Also, red light--->red lens = no color being filtered. Which(I think) equates to a little more light output.

They are on the truck now going through final testing.
NOTE: I goofed and forgot to solder the center row. it was already sealed up so I said whatever.. but the final run will have all 3 rows working.

The workings: Heatsink keepin' it cool.



Believe it or not, this took a while to source all the proper components. (QD connectors, LED resistors, 7440 adapters, rubber plug, etc). Like I said before, this is 100% plug and play.

I have decided to smoke tint the center reflector. blends in better and makes the horseshoe pop;

Here is a quick video VS stock to give you an idea of the light configuration and flash pattern. The reverse lights slowly come up to brightness(something built into the morimotos)

Red bulbs are not legal in TX at least.

what!? How can they even tell if its a red bulb... it looks near identical to a white one both going through a red lens.

 

Sorry I was looking in the clear lense section. With red lense it really shouldn't matter.

God damn they're sexy. Enough with the teasing, where the heck is my pair?
Are you going to turn the LED intensity back to 100% since they are now red on red?

 

Can you post a link to that regulation?

 

How do you take the taillights apart? What do you use to reseal them?

 

Also, where do you buy all these lights from that's a lot of money!

 

Local autozone had a special. I figured if a bulb burns out, it would be easier to change to an entire new tail light then to mess with the bulb.

 

Are you still cutting them apart or have you found another way to take them apart?

 

Cutting is the only way, and results in the cleanest lines.
Reassembly is done by plastic welding the seam back together(structure) and then going over with a coat of black RTV.(sealing)

 

ok wasn't sure if you had found a different way or not but let me know when those led boards are for sale my lights look to normal compared to yours haha
