Yes, and also the engine cuts a little. With ATRAC, it's just brakes to control the slip.

I'm so lost. So TRAC is the function, and atrac is the mode? I have automatic lsd which sucks because of the engine cutting out, i hit it once and get auto lsd and no traction control (is that atrac?) And ifni hold it down everything goes off and im pretty much an open diff?

If I had traction control, shouldn't the power cut off when the wheels start to cut loose from traction?

go to that link that the other guy posted. You do not have ATRAC unless you have an Off Road.

The second gen changed what TRAC means with regard to cutting power and not cutting power. Then the third gen changed it again with TRAC OFF

It depends on what traction control meant back then. Like I wrote above, the power cutting featured changed half way through the second gen and now again with the third gen. You have some sort of ABS and stability control under the hood

NPS website says to watch for the sign marking the point beyond which a 4-wheel-drive vehicle is recommended. Did you go beyond this ? IS this trail a loop or do you turn around and drive back to pavement?

yep I saw the sign and kept going. it was easy and it loops back to the pavement. a few others I asked told me beforehand how easy it was so I went for it. My brother was leading the way in his stock height (LOWER THAN TACOMA) Nissan frontier with street tires. We both did fine.

Going on my first trail this weekend. Will be hitting up Split Mountain out in Anza Borrega. I want to check out those metal sculptures. Leaving Sunday from the 605/5 freeway intersection area. I'll be driving a '17 TRD Offroad. If anyone wants to join up. Also what PSI should I be running while out there. I'm a complete newb to this.

I went out in Anza Borrego and a fair amount of the trails are 2WD friendly. Blair Valley i made it everywhere in 2wd. Also going out to fonts point I made it in 2wd without deflating, but we were carring a lot of momentum on that trail. Fonts point is an awesome lookout over the Borrego Badlands, and there is always coyote canyon which i have seen civics on that one. I still advise having someone with a 4x4 if you try some of the other trails

3N43 up near Arrowhead. Willow Creek Trail. Did it in my Prerunner with no issues this past weekend. Clearance helped and so did a little speed over inclines with rocks. Fun trail that took a few hours taking our time.
