Yes the 3rd gen uses two VVTIs but the gain in HP and torque is so insignificant it's not noticeable. I think the extra VVTI was used for emission reasons.

Yeah, i found one of those at the local autozone, but fortunately I didn't have to resort to anything that drastic.

I had a chance to test drive the truck with the header, and it is a subtle but noticeable improvement. It can definitely hold a gear longer on the highways without having to downshift as much. I'm excited to see if there is any more improvement to be had once I get a few tanks through it and the computer learns to make the most out of it.

Also, looking forward to seeing what it does to my mpg.

I keep going back & forth about buying an LCE header. Eventually, I'll probably do it. I'll save it as a "final" upgrade because I'm not sure how beneficial it would be. Once or twice a week there's a moment when I'm driving and would like more power.

Hmmm...I've been working on a name for my truck since I bought it in August 2016, and it just hit me as I was typing. Here it is -- "Tortoise."

Tortoises are slow, dependable, durable, carry weight on the backs, and have long lives. Their brains are small, too, which could refer to the driver or the 4-cyl engine.

It shouldn't be the last thing to do but the first. It's the best bang for the performance buck for the 2.7. I took out my fender snorkel, installed the LCE header and using a Quiet Flow muffler and the performance level went up noticably with a mpg gain as well.

Do you think the quiet flow muffler is worth it performance wise?

I bought a cat back but swap out the muffler with the quiet flow because I didn't like the noise and drown. The quiet flow did add a noticeable improvement and my mpg went up a touch.

Any comparisons between LCE and the Doug Thorley headers for the 2TR? I have LCE on my vehicle(purchased used)....very happy with the results, but the ceramic coating is scraped and long gone in most areas, and I had reused all orginal hardware with the exception of new gaskets. Does either brand provide any differences between the two performance/MPG-wise?

Everything I've read about the two has lead me to believe the lce is superior, unless you need cali smog. Better low end torque, etc. If you already have the lce, I wouldn't mess with a good thing. You're set.

I agree with GDT. The LCE is a better performing header because it uses the same length header pipes and the Thorley doesn't.

Who makes the Quiet Flow? Do you have a link? I've got LCEs header and catback. I put a resonator in already to get rid of the drone and quiet it a bit. Would be nice if it was a little quieter.

Walker makes Quiet Flow. I have the stainless steel muffler and if memory serves my correctly it was for a older Dodge truck/van. It had the correct diameter in and out with the correct offset. Fit like factory.

Got my LCE yesterday, planning on keeping everything else in the exhaust stock.

Question: should I do anything to the intake? 100% stock right now.

Remove the snorkel in the fender. It necks down on the end to the point of being restrictive.
