Considering a black 2015 TRD Off-Road Double Cab with all the goodies. odo is at 28,000. Had a long term test drive. It's in excellent condition. Window sticker in the glove box says MSRP when new was $34,020. Dealership is asking $30,000. Seemed high to me until I searched countrywide for a better deal. Also comes in below KBB and NADA estimated values. Most vehicles would drop $4000 just driving them new off the lot. Guess that doesn't apply to a Tacoma...??? But I have trouble reconciling that with the price of new.
One local Toyota dealership has 10 new 2017s under $35,000, 3 of which are 4 door TRD Off-Roads. But when I drove both I preferred the 2015. I prefer the looks of the 2017 but no comparison in driving. Much prefer the 2015. 2017 felt sluggish and the trans was constantly hunting for gears. 2015 trans was flawlessly smooth.
Anyway; does $30,000 sound about right for an immaculate rig with a clean carfax? Most I have seen have been in pretty poor condition by my standards. This one stands out.
I have owned several 4Runners, 2 Land Cruisers and a couple Rav4s. Never had driven a Tacoma until recently. Very impressed with this 2015.

    Welcome!
The 2015s are the best year model in my opinion.

Also consider that the 2015 has had a two-year 28,000 mile "shake-down cruise" during which the original buyer dealt with the inevitable trips to the dealer for fixes, TSBs, recalls etc.--you will have to do all that with a new one.

I agree about the 3rd gen being "sluggish" and "constantly hunting for gears". That was my impression when I test drove one a few weeks ago.

I feel like everyone in this forum may be a little bias but I own a 2nd gen and I've test driven a few 3rd gens. They have a lot more sound dampening which is nice but other than that I prefer the 2nd gen. You can always add sound dampening material to the 2nd gen if it's that big of a deal to you

It makes me wonder what gear ratio the 2017 was. My 2013 has 4:56 gears in it and it has plenty of pep. In fact, it tows my boat better than my 4.8 liter Chevy. If that 2017 has 3:73 gears in it, it's gonna be sluggish.

I'd like to see a video where the 4.0 goes up against the 3.5. The only one I could find was some towing competition up a grade

Is the 3.5 a four or six cylinder?

Mine was $27700 with 33,000 and some change on the ODO. I searched for a few months to find the right year, price, color, and miles that was still South of the rust belt.

Was yours the Off-Road for $27,700? From what I am seeing that was a smokin' deal. I am also looking at an equally nice 2015 Sport that only has 21,000 miles and is about $1500 less. I don't really see what the TRD Sport gets you besides a hood scoop and some blacked out trim and rear bumper. I see it in your sig now.

    Thanks, everyone, for the input.

I paid $26900 in March of this year for a 2015 DCSB TRDOR with 46k miles. It was Toyota Certified Pre Owned.

Buy it, the 2015 is not noisy or underpowered. 2016/17 are. Atkinson cycle engines are great in a prius. Not so great in a truck.
The reviews in consumer reports for 2016 are awful.

Just bought a DCSB 4x4 Sport last month for $32k. 17.5k miles and Toyota Certified. Definitely thought long & hard before buying it. Searched nationwide and found the exact truck I wanted. Traveled 1200 miles to get it. I don't mind spending a few extra dollars, because in the end I got exactly what I wanted!

i believe when i was searching, trucks in the southern states cost more.
    mine was 25,995 + TTL
2013 TRD off road with 58K
mine was in mint condition with after market wheels and tires..

so 30K does not seem far off for something with lower miles..

this truck was the cheapest in price and had the most miles when i was looking for a tacoma..
i almost pulled the trigger on a couple $30k trucks with a average 20,000 miles for years 2013-2015
