    Not always a big fan of Wiki, this is actually one of their better efforts. A well documented piece. Battle of Perryville was a pivotal point in the Civil War. The south never quite managed to mount the same effort again on so many fronts as they did during this time. They were attacking the North on 7 different fronts. The Confederacy may have actually won this battle, but were unable to consolidate their troops and hold. Federals had 40,000 fresh troops just miles away, and the Rebs were out of ammo and battle worn, so they withdrew to Tennessee. Had the South held Perryville, they had a strong base to attack Federal supply dump at Louisville. This would have been a crushing defeat for the North.

    My wife and I spent the day yesterday at the Perryville Battlefield site. It is an eerie feeling being where the ground was once covered in blood of America's finest.

    Take 10 minutes out of your weekend to go visit ANY cemetery. Look around at the American flags on graves of US vets. THIS is what this weekend is about.....not beer and BBQ....Be thankful for the thousands upon thousands of brave young men and women who laid down their lives so we can all live the lives we do. Then go have your beer and BBQ. They would enjoy that too....
